When I needed a power supply for assembled structures, I looked at a lot of publications on this topic. But none of them, unfortunately, did not satisfy me. Then I decided to make a design from the parts I had.

The rectifier in the power supply (see figure) was made on the VD1 diode bridge, which can be any of the KTs405 series. In place of the step-down transformer, I used a vertical scan output transformer TVK - 110LM from a black-and-white TV, although another transformer with a voltage on the secondary winding of 9 ... 12 V is suitable.

Simple power supply

I fixed the DA1 stabilizer on a heat sink made of aluminum with a thickness of 1,5 mm and dimensions of 55x45 mm. I'm happy with the unit. To reduce the existing DC voltage ripple at the output of the unit, it is enough to connect an oxide capacitor with a capacity of 2 μF for a voltage of 10 V to the sockets of the X16 socket.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Mushrooms found to secrete gold 04.08.2019

In Australia, scientists have found a type of fungus that can turn compounds into pure precious metal.

Microscopic fungi Fusarium oxysporum, found in the west of the Australian continent, were able to transform gold compounds in various environments into pure gold.

The fungus releases highly reactive hydrogen peroxide molecules, which, after oxidation, turn into ions that form pure metal complexes. Gold nanocoatings appear on the surface of the mushroom mycelium.

The purpose of such transformations for the life of a new type of fungus is not clear to scientists, however, they state the difference between the growth of fungal strains coated with gold and without it. The former, according to the observations of the researchers, grow faster and grow larger than the samples without the "gold coating".

Perhaps the nanoparticles facilitate the absorption of certain substances important for the growth of strains, or contribute to the implementation of any reactions necessary for life in metal-rich minerals, the scientists suggest.
