This switch (fig. 1) controls a garland of sixteen LEDs so that they light up and go out randomly.

A master oscillator is assembled on the logical elements DD1.1 and DD1.2, the frequency of which can be smoothly changed by a variable resistor R2. The signal from the generator is fed to the counting input of the microcircuits DD2 and DD3 - they are connected in such a way that they form a 16-bit shift register. The register input (pins 1, 2 of the DD2 chip) receives a signal from the high-order bits of the DD1.4 chip through the XOR element DD1.3 and the inverter DD3. As a result, the shift register is closed in a ring, which allows you to get a pseudo-random sequence of low and high voltages at its outputs. The state of the register changes along the edges of the clock pulses generated by the master oscillator.

Generator cycle, i.e. the time after which the pseudo-random sequence repeats is equal to 32767 clock cycles. If the master oscillator is running at 3 Hz, the repetition period of the sequence will be about three hours.

The pseudo-random sequence generator has one forbidden state. When the supply voltage is applied to all outputs of the microcircuits DD2 and DD3, the voltage will be high, the state of the shift register will not change, since a high level signal will be applied to its input. To ensure a guaranteed start of the device, an initial installation node was introduced on the elements R4, VD1, C2. After the power is turned on, the capacitor C2 is discharged and a low-level signal is sent to the input R of the microcircuits DD2, DD3, setting them to zero. As the capacitor C2 is charged through the resistor R3, the low level will change to a high one, which will enable the shift register to work. After the power is turned off, the capacitor C2 will be discharged through the diode VD1.

Instead of the K555LP5 microcircuit, you can use KR1533LP5 or K155LP5, but in the latter version, pins 4 and 13 of the DD1 microcircuit connected together should be connected to the positive power wire through a resistor with a resistance of 1 ... 10 kOhm. We can replace the KD522B diode with any low-power silicon diode, for example, the KD521 series. Fixed resistors - MLT-0.125, variable R2, combined with the SA1 power switch, - SPZ-ZgM or other small-sized. Oxide capacitors - K50-35, K50-40.

Any LEDs operating at a current of 10 ... 20 mA. It is permissible to install multi-colored LEDs of the AL307 series. Resistors R5 - R20 should be selected depending on the operating current of the LEDs. For example, for green LEDs AL307V, AL307G, the specified resistors should be 100 ohms. for red AL307A. AL307B - 200 Ohm.

An interesting effect can be achieved using two-color LEDs. for example, the KIPD18 series. The garland will flash not only red and green, but also yellow lights. The current limiting resistors for these LEDs should be 100 ohms.

The details of the device, except for the LEDs of the garland, are placed on a printed circuit board (Fig. 2) made of one-sided foil fiberglass. The dashed lines in the drawing show additional wire jumpers soldered from the side of the parts.

LED string switch

The brightness of the LEDs will increase if you connect them with cathodes to limiting resistors, and anodes - to the plus of the power source. This will reduce the load on the microcircuits.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Direction finder Saab Sensor Compact 16.05.2022

Saab has developed a mobile electronics module, the Sensor Compact, which is able to monitor airborne threats and still go unnoticed.

Sirius Compact is a device belonging to the class of technology for electronic warfare (EW). It allows you to create an entire passive network to monitor threats, increase situational awareness and support operations at all tactical levels.

The sensors detect electromagnetic emissions from enemy vehicles, evaluate their power and classify data transmission channels, while remaining invisible to enemy direction finders due to the absence of outgoing signals.

Specifications Sensor Compact:

Height: 30 cm
Diameter: 14 cm
Weight: about 3 kg
Power: 50 W
Frequency Range: 2-11;18GHz
Interfaces: Ethernet, 18-28 V DC
Azimuth coverage: 360°
DF accuracy: < 2° RMS
Geolocation using triangulation
Digital channel receiver
Positioning: built-in IMU/GNSS

Small size and autonomy allow you to quickly install the Sensor Compact on a tripod right on the battlefield, they can also be placed on drones, cars, ships and other vehicles. By moving the sensors or combining the data of several of them, you can establish the exact position of objects using triangulation. The system will warn in advance of approaching targets, which is especially important in the work of ground-based air defense.

Sensor Compact do not store confidential data, which eliminates information leakage if the device is lost.

"Operating in the electromagnetic spectrum of today's battlefield is an ever-changing challenge. The need to remain undetected in the deployment and use of electronic warfare was at the forefront of the development of the Sirius Compact," commented Karl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab's surveillance division.
