The crankshaft position sensor (see photo 1) is an electromagnetic sensor that synchronizes the operation of the fuel injectors and the ignition system in the fuel injection system. In this regard, DPKV is the main one, without which the operation of the fuel injection system is impossible.

Malfunctions of the DPKV will inevitably lead to engine malfunctions. Although malfunctions of the crankshaft position sensor are not so common, when going on a long journey, it is better to have a working sensor in stock, because. in cases of failure of the DPKV, further movement of the car may be impossible. The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on a bracket near the generator drive pulley (see photo 2).

DPKV is installed with a gap between the sensor and the toothed pulley. The gap should be around 1mm. (see Fig. 1) and is set by selecting the appropriate washers.

The generator drive gear pulley is made in the form of a special disk, on which there are 58 teeth every 6 degrees. To generate a pulse to synchronize the crankshaft speed, two teeth are missing on the pulley (see photo 2 and fig. 1). An all-metal pulley or with a damper (rubber spacer) can be installed on the car. During the operation of the car, all-metal pulleys are almost not subject to wear. It is only necessary to monitor the absence of any foreign particles and dirt between the teeth. If the pulley is with a damper, it is necessary to monitor its condition, because. damper damage can lead to problems with engine operation. When performing repair work, care should be taken not to deform the pulley, because. this may cause engine malfunction. Visual control of the condition of the alternator drive pulley can be carried out through the arch of the right front wheel, as shown in photo 3.

In this case, an all-metal pulley is installed on the car. If the crankshaft position sensor, the generator drive pulley and the timing drive are malfunctioning, the controller can fix the error and light the "CHECK ENGINE" lamp. Accordingly, the code "35" and / or "19" will be entered into the error buffer. The following symptoms can be attributed to malfunctions of these elements: unstable engine idle speed, spontaneous increase or decrease in engine speed, engine stop, inability to start the engine, engine power reduction , the occurrence of detonation under dynamic loads, gaps in sparking. Photo 4 and photo 5 show a generator drive pulley with a damaged damper.

This malfunction led to the impossibility of correct synchronization of the injection and ignition phases, because. the inner part of the pulley has shifted relative to the gear wheel and because of this, the injection and ignition phases have been shifted. After replacing the pulley with a working one, the engine malfunctions stopped.

One less moon 05.04.2002

Uranus lost one of its moons. The International Astronomical Union has decided that the celestial body, which seems to be found in several images taken by the robotic Voyager 2 probe, is not a satellite of Uranus.

The photographs, taken back in 1986, became the object of careful study only 13 years later, in 1999. Then, in seven photographs, an object with a diameter of about 40 km was found, orbiting the planet at a distance of 75 km. There has been no other confirmation of the existence of a new moon since then, and the images are considered controversial. In the near future, the Hubble Space Telescope will look at Uranus, but until it confirms the existence of another satellite of the planet, it was decided to consider this satellite non-existent.

Thus, Uranus now has 20 officially recognized moons, well behind Saturn (30) and Jupiter (28 moons).
