Photo 1 shows the TPS (2112-1148200) with the cover removed. Being installed on the car "VAZ 2110" (which is equipped with the injection system "BOSCH M1.5.4"), this sensor served for about 4500 km. vehicle mileage and led to idling problems.

Throttle position sensor malfunctions

While the car was moving, when the gear was turned off, the engine sometimes stopped. When accelerating, jerks appeared, idle speed did not stabilize in almost all engine operating modes. The "CHECK ENGINE" light came on intermittently. Because the symptoms clearly indicated a malfunction of the TPS, reading error codes was not required. The faulty sensor was simply replaced with a new one and all problems were solved.

The cause of the sensor failure was simple. The design of this TPS includes a substrate (see photo 2), a resistive layer is deposited on it. At the very beginning of the potentiometer slider stroke, this coating was rubbed to the base (in photo 3 it is shown by white arrows). As a result, the sensor did not provide a linear increase in the output signal voltage, which led to the problems discussed above. Unfortunately, this is not the only reason that can lead to similar symptoms of a TPS malfunction. A slider may also be a possible cause of the sensor's inoperability.

Photo-4 shows the movable core of the TPS with the contacts of the potentiometer slider.

Throttle position sensor malfunctions

This sensor lasted about 12000 km. mileage of the car "VAZ-2109" equipped with the fuel injection system "JANUARY-4". The failure of the sensor is due to the lack of contact between the slider and the resistive layer. Because Initially, one of the tips broke, a scuff formed on the substrate, due to which the remaining two also broke (shown in photo 4 with a black arrow). However, since the contacts themselves are made of spring metal, the sensor worked somehow, but the substrate was subjected to significant and rapid wear. Accordingly, this faulty TPS led to the appearance of the above symptoms of a sensor malfunction. As in the first case, all problems were solved by replacing the faulty TPS with a new one (in this case, a new "GM" sensor was used).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The pendant will protect from criminals 06.01.2005

Englishwoman Liz Williams, a designer by profession, after reading newspaper reports about street crime in London, has developed a device for protection that looks like a massive pendant.

When meeting with a hooligan or a bandit, it is worth pulling out the ring - and the attacker is enveloped in a cloud of fine powder, which, upon contact with moisture, turns into bright red paint. The paint stays on the skin or clothes for 72 hours, despite attempts to wash it off.

In addition, the pendant contains a radio beacon that starts beeping on the frequency of police radios and continues to do so for also 72 hours.
