Motorcycle gear indicator

This device is used to display the current gear of the motorcycle. The main difference of this device is that it displays the current transmission depending on the signals from the sensors on the switch handle. Unlike other devices, where the current gear of the motorcycle was determined based on data from the speedometer and tachometer (used in some models of expensive motorcycles). The device contains a main board with a 7-segment indicator, two Hall sensors placed on the motorcycle frame and a small magnet placed on the gear lever.

The electrical circuit is based on the AVR ATTINY25/45/85 microcontroller, which processes the signals from two sensors and outputs transmission data to the indicator, through the 4026 counter / decoder.

The source code of the program is written in AVR-GCC (WinAVR). Fuses during programming - all by default (MK ATTINY25 and programmer USBTiny). The only thing is that the constant TOP_GEAR 5 should be changed to 6 for a six-speed motorcycle.

The printed circuit board is made double-sided, in a miniature design. Microcontroller and microcircuit 4026 in SMD version. The 7-segment indicator is made by a separate modular board and is connected to the end of the main board (letter G). There are 2 options for the indicator printed circuit board - for red and blue 7-segment indicators.

When power is connected to the circuit (supplying 12V to the contacts TO_POWER_1 and TO_POWER_2), the device self-tests by enumerating all the digits of the indicator. After the test is completed, the device is ready for use.

The sensor must be positioned as follows - the north pole of the magnet should look at the sensor (if it is the other way around, it will not work). Therefore, if it does not work, then deploy the magnet or sensors.

Also, if a neutral gear is detected (from the neutral switch connected to TO_POWER_4), the display will show zero.

When the power is turned off, the current transmission is written to the EEPROM memory of the microcontroller and when the device is turned on again, it is read from the memory and displayed on the display.

The cable to the sensors is 4-wire. Soldering points and exposed wire leads are placed in a heat shrink tube. The conclusions near the sensor itself can be filled with varnish or epoxy. You can try to put the entire sensor with the leads into the heat shrink.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bicycle stabilization system 27.04.2019

The stabilization system today may be called differently depending on the brand, but in any case, it helps the driver avoid losing control of the car. And why not adapt such a system for two-wheeled vehicles?

Dutch scientists from the Delft University of Technology, together with Gazelle, have designed a prototype electric bicycle equipped with a stabilization system of their own design. Using a set of sensors, it is able to detect that the bike is losing balance, after which it changes the angle of the steering wheel in such a way as to align its position and thereby prevent a fall.

The main component of the electromechanical stabilization system is located in the head tube of the bicycle - because of this, it, however, has grown considerably in diameter. Inside the glass is an electric motor that controls the angle of rotation of the fork with the wheel. In addition, a control unit housing is fixed to the bicycle frame, in which the sensors and all electronics are located. The system operates at speeds of four km/h and monitors the movement parameters of the bike.

In the event that the algorithm determines a critical level of frame inclination, it immediately commands the motor to turn the front wheel in the right direction, taking into account the speed of the bike. The prospects for serial use of the stabilization system have not yet been reported, but this thing would definitely be useful for inexperienced cyclists or older people who find it difficult to control a bike.
