One English shortwave developed a small-sized two-element antenna, which received the name. "Zygi-beam". Each element of the antenna (see Fig. 1) is made in the form of a rectangle, the sum of the lengths of the sides of which is approximately equal to L / 2, and the ratio of the large side to the small one is two. The midpoints of the large sides are open. The antenna elements are located in the same plane and are actively powered. The elements are made from pieces of aluminum tubes with outer diameters of 13 and 6 mm. Segments of thin tubes are bent in the form of the letter P and their ends, about 160 mm long, are inserted inside the thick tubes.

The antenna elements are fixed on plates 305x63 mm in size. made of steel and plexiglass (see Fig. 2). The ends of the tubes to which the power is connected are attached to the steel plates, and the free ends of the tubes under high voltage are attached to the Plexiglas plates.

The segment of the transmission line connecting the elements is made of a ribbon cable 2185 mm long with a wave impedance of 300 ohms.

The tuning of the antenna elements to the resonant frequencies indicated in Fig. 1 is carried out with the ribbon cable disconnected by moving thin tubes inside thick ones. Moving the tubes by 2,5 mm results in a resonant frequency change of approximately 100 kHz. The adjustment of each element should be done on both sides in order to maintain the symmetry of the structure. The SWR of a properly tuned antenna at 14,2 MHz should not exceed 1,1. A decrease in SWR can be achieved by adjusting element A. The ratio of the powers radiated in the forward and reverse directions depends mainly on the setting of element B.

The input impedance of the antenna is 42 ohms, which makes it possible to use a cable with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms to power it. When using a 75-ohm cable, a transformer was used to match the antenna to the feeder, installed near the antenna input terminals. with resistance transformation ratio 1.6.

The half power beamwidth is about -70° with a forward to reverse power ratio of about 8-10 dB. The antenna gain, according to the author's estimates, exceeds 4 dB. The antenna radiates energy mainly at small angles to the horizon, the height of its installation has little effect on performance.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

microphone in ear 28.04.2003

South Korean firm Samsung has developed an in-ear microphone.

The company claims it is the first in-ear microphone phone. It receives sound directly from the user's head, while filtering out about 90% of external noise. The in-ear microphone will go on sale later this year in wired and wireless (Bluetooth) versions.

The latter should especially appeal to drivers using mobile phones: while driving, they will be able to talk without even putting on a headset. Today, such a headset usually consists of headphones and a microphone at the mouth and is connected by a wire to a cell phone.
