Mixing to cement mass relevant colorants, you can make various beautiful objects, such as paving slabs and architectural decorations.

Only those that do not change under the action of strong alkalis are suitable as coloring substances. For this reason, Prussian blue, which changes its color in the presence of alkalis, is completely inapplicable. To ensure that the basic gray color of the cement does not affect the tone of colored cements, bright colors are usually chosen.

Below are some colorants that can be used to color cement pastes:

For white or light gray - white marble powder, white soapstone, white asbestos.

For yellow - chrome yellow, yellow ocher.

For red - kolkotar, finely ground red iron ore (iron oxide).

For brown - manganese powder.

For blue - ultramarine, schmalt (cobalt glass).

For purple - mixtures of yellow, red and blue powders, very hot red iron ore.

For green - mixtures of yellow and blue powders.

For black - pure black coal powder. All these paints are used in the form of a fine powder, for which they are first crushed and sometimes even washed out.

The dry paint powder is thoroughly mixed with an appropriate amount of cement and then mixed with water. The finer the paint is ground, and the more thoroughly it is mixed with cement, the greater the amount of cement that can be colored with it.

Good paint mixed with cement and water is poured into molds up to approximately 5 mm high. The mold is then filled with an ordinary cement mixture, which is closely bonded to the colored layer. Such tiles give a colored color on one side and gray on the other.

It should be noted that almost all coloring substances harm the strength of cement, and only ultramarine, added in a small amount, increases its strength.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Quantum teleportation 44 km 06.01.2021

Scientists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory - the US Department of Energy's national laboratory affiliated with the University of Chicago - along with partners from five institutions, have taken a significant step towards realizing the quantum Internet.

The researchers were able to transmit a quantum state over 44 km with over 90% accuracy over fiber optic networks similar to those that form the backbone of the current internet.

"We are delighted with these results. This is a key advance towards creating a technology that will redefine the development of global communication," says physicist Panagiotis Spentsouris of the Fermilab Laboratory of Particle Physics and Accelerators, based at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Both data transmission accuracy and transmission distance are critical when it comes to building a real, working quantum internet. Making progress on any of these fronts is cause for celebration.
