This machine will become your assistant if you are engaged in modeling or just like tinkering. Even at home, it often becomes necessary to cut off the rail and cut it off or sharpen the tool - all these operations are "on the shoulder" of the machine I made. It is small - dimensions 80x180x360 mm, so it is convenient to store it even in an apartment.

The body of the machine is assembled from plywood. The side walls are made of a ten-millimeter sheet, the front (to which the electric motor is attached) is 16 mm thick, and the back is made of a four-millimeter sheet. In order to be able to tension the drive belt by moving the electric motor, I made the front wall inclined (at an angle of 60° to the base). The table of the machine is also plywood - from a sheet 4 mm thick. All body parts are fastened with screws.

The driving and driven pulleys are machined from duralumin on a lathe. Not on axes, they are fixed with two M3 screws each. The spindle of the machine consists of three parts - central and two lateral. All of them are made of steel bar Ø 6 mm. The spindle rotates in two bearings with an inner ring diameter of 4 mm.

I cut the saw blade from the canvas of an old hacksaw for wood. The technology of its manufacture is simple. With a marking compass, I drew two circles on the canvas - one Ø 60 mm (outer diameter of the disk), the second Ø 56 mm (circumference of the tooth cavities). After processing the disk along the outer contour with a trihedral needle file, I cut the teeth and set them apart in the same way as is done on a hacksaw for cutting wood.

The abrasive wheel that I had at my disposal had an inner diameter of 13 mm, so I had to put it on the machine spindle using an intermediate sleeve. It should be borne in mind that there are a great many emery wheels, so the size of the sleeve should be determined according to what you have. Just make sure that its outer diameter does not exceed 60 mm.

Structural diagram of a woodworking machine (click to enlarge): 1 - fan impeller, 2 - electric motor, 3 - table, 4 - guide, 5 - abrasive wheel, 6 - saw blade, 7 - machine spindle (A - central part, B - side parts), 8 - driven pulley, 9 - bearing, 10 - planer drum, 11 - drive belt, 12 - side wall, 13 - drive pulley.

The wall motor is from an electric sewing machine, its operating voltage is 220 V, power is 20 W and the rotation speed is 4550 rpm. In order to prevent the engine from overheating during prolonged operation, it is useful to plant a small impeller-fan on the non-free end of the shaft.

The mechanical planer is a steel drum Ø 26 mm with an M6 inner hole. Grooves 1 mm wide are milled in the drum. Without further ado, I took the knives for him from pencil sharpeners - they were quite suitable for this purpose. In the drum, they are fixed with two M3 screws each.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Codec for smartphones Cirrus Logic CS47L15 04.12.2016

Cirrus Logic introduced the CS47L15 chip, which performs the functions of an audio codec. The Cirrus Logic CS47L15 codec is intended for smartphones, and, according to the manufacturer, it will allow inexpensive devices to be endowed with the capabilities that are characteristic of flagship models. We are talking about the function of voice activation always on, improved support for karaoke, virtual stereo and improved sound quality.

Of course, given the scope, the codec has a very low power consumption. In standby mode, power consumption does not exceed 25 mW, and in playback mode with sound output to headphones - 2,6 mW.

The features of Cirrus Logic CS47L15 include the presence of a built-in equalizer and a digital signal processor. The manufacturer estimates the level of crosstalk between stereo channels at -110 dB.

The codec easily connects to single-chip systems, supports analog and digital microphones and a variety of amplifiers.
