It contains four series-connected RS-flip-flops (Fig. 1, a), assembled on the 2I-NOT logic elements of two K155LAZ microcircuits, LED indicators HL1 and HL2, a push-button switch SBl and four pairs of closing contacts, indicated in the diagram as switches SA1- SA4. The player's task is to light the HL2 "Finish" LED as quickly as possible by successively closing the contacts SA1, SA2, etc. But to do this, as you will see later, is not so simple.

The machine works like this. While the contacts of the SBl "Start" button are closed, all triggers are in the zero state, since their input R is a low voltage level; indicators do not light up.

Fig.1 Slot machine on RS triggers

Note that the voltage at the input R of the first flip-flop is zero. Opening the contacts of the start button turns on the HL1 LED, since the VD1SB1 shunt circuit opens. This signals the start of the game. But the flip-flops continue to maintain the zero state, since now at the input R of the first flip-flop, the voltage, although it has increased, remains less than the threshold.

Sequential short-term closure of contacts SA1-SA4 leads to switching to a single state of the first trigger (while the HL1 LED goes out), and then the rest. Simultaneously with the switching of the last trigger to a single state, when a low-level voltage appears at its inverse output, the HL2 LED flashes, notifying that the task has been completed correctly.

Cancellation of the states of the automaton triggers, which they take when the start button is pressed and the task is correctly performed, can be traced from the table in Fig. 1, b. When the start button is released and its contacts close again, the triggers switch to the zero state, the HL2 LED goes out.

Most parts of the gaming machine can be mounted on the board as shown in Fig. 2, a, c.

Rice. 2 Installation of the slot machine

Start button SB1 with return by pressing again. Suitable, for example, a push-button switch used in table lamps, or a two-position toggle switch. The design of contacts SA1 - SA4 depends on the game in which you will use the machine. If this is a game with the conditional name "roll the ball", then the contacts can be metal plates attached to the cover under four holes in it (Fig. 3, b). The box itself is round, with a diameter of 2 ... 200 mm with a side so that the ball does not jump out of it.

Holding the box in his hands and shaking it from side to side, the player must roll a metal ball with a diameter of 15-20 mm into the holes in the sequence indicated on the lid (this is the playing field) by arrows. Getting into the hole, the ball closes the contacts and thereby sends an impulse to the input of the corresponding trigger.

The electronic "stuffing" together with the power supply (3336 battery) must be placed inside the box so that the SB1 trigger button is accessible and the LEDs are visible. Do not forget to also provide a switch in the battery circuit.

Two such devices, launched by a common button on the remote control panel, will allow two players to compete in the skill of rolling the ball in a given sequence.

Another example of a possible use of a slot machine is for high-speed "shooting" at four targets with tennis balls. Each target is a suspended tin plate with a diameter of 60 ... 80 mm, isolated from the second such plate located behind it. When the ball hits exactly, the plates shortly close and the corresponding trigger switches to a single state. The team that hits all the targets in a certain sequence with the least number of balls thrown wins.

You can, of course, come up with other possible applications of the automaton on RS-flip-flops.

The RS flip-flop, which we hope you have figured out, switches from one stable state to another, i.e. opposite to the previous one, immediately after changing the signal levels at its input. Such triggers are called asynchronous with set inputs. However, in instruments and devices of digital technology, synchronous triggers with extended action logic, such as D-flip-flops, are more often used.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Updated Specification for Lightning Connector 13.06.2014

Apple at the annual WWDC event presented an updated specification for the Lightning connector, which will allow third-party manufacturing companies under the MFi program to produce wired headsets and headphones connected to the Lightning port. Of course, in the nearest plans of Apple's management, it is unlikely that there will be a rejection of the classic audio jack in their mobile devices, however, the described solution will already be able to provide users with not just an alternative, but completely new opportunities and a transition to the next quality level.

Among the main advantages, in addition to the significantly increased bandwidth due to the new connection interface, was the expansion of control functionality, as well as the possibility of additional charging, in which a separately built-in battery in massive on-ear headphones, popular among young people, could transfer charge to the battery of a smartphone with an apple logo.

Instead of the standard 3,5mm jack that is ubiquitous in all mobile electronics today, a Lightning connection will give an edge to third party products and sound quality. The transmission of digital audio content with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz will now become available. One of the reasons potential users might opt for a direct Lightning port connection for iOS mobile devices is the flexibility and depth of control over Apple-branded services like iTunes Radio.

"If your headphones have built-in noise cancellation, you will now be able to launch an app on your iOS mobile device that will interact with your headset and provide you with detailed information about its operation and additional settings," - said one of the authorized representatives of the company Apple.
