Annual plant, 40-200 cm tall, with straight, simple stems, bare or at the top with scattered long-beamed stellate hairs; leaves are long-petiolate, especially the lower ones, 5-7-lobed, folded, wavy, with a finely and sharply serrated edge.

The flowers are numerous, almost sessile or on very short pedicels, collected in axils in glomeruli, from which individual flowers sometimes protrude on long pedicels; the calyx is divided into ovate-triangular acute lobes; corolla 1,5-2 times the calyx, pale purple, pink or almost white; petals are broadly obovate, gently sloping and slightly notched at the top.

Fruit of 10-11 pale bare fruitlets with thin, transversely wrinkled walls along the margin, along the back with one longitudinal, slightly noticeable median line; seeds are brown, small-pointed.

The plant is mid-season, moisture-loving, cold-resistant, less drought-resistant than other species. Propagated by seeds Germination lasts 4-6 years. In northern conditions, seeds may not mature physiologically and require sowing stratification.
