Maple. Myths, traditions, symbolism

Sycamore maple (Nuclear maple)

Maple trees of various kinds have symbolic meaning in both China and Canada.

In China, this is based on the fact that the name of the tree (feng) sounds the same as the concept of "assign a high rank."

If a monkey is depicted with a tied bag on a maple tree, then this is called "feng-hui", which in free translation means: let the recipient of this picture receive the rank of a prominent official.

Maple leaf from the 19th century is the national symbol of Canada. We are talking about sugar maple, among other things, and the source of maple syrup.

Three red maple leaves are depicted at the base of the shield of the national emblem of Canada, one leaf is held by a lion as a helmet decoration.

The flag also depicts one red maple leaf, three maple leaves are present in the coats of arms of the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

Sycamore maple (Acer maple), Acer platanoides. Botanical description of the plant, areas of growth and ecology, economic importance, applications

Sycamore maple (Nuclear maple)

Family Maple, class Dicotyledonous, department Angiosperms.

Maple grows in deciduous forests. The plant is shade-tolerant, often a companion of oak and can grow under its crown. The tree is tall - 15-30 m, lives up to 150 years. The leaves are opposite, petiolate, five-lobed.

Blooms in May. The flowers are regular, yellowish-green, with a five-lobed corolla and a five-parted calyx, stamens 5-12, pistil - 1 with two stigmas. The fruits of the maple are two-winged, their wings are spread out in different directions. The fruits ripen gradually and fall from the trees from autumn to the end of winter.

Norway maple is called sycamore maple for the similarity of its leaves with the leaves of sycamore. Soft maple flowers are noticeable in spring, as they are collected in large inflorescences that emit a pleasant sweet and sour smell.

Bees and flies flock to the inflorescences. Maple is a good early honey plant.

Sycamore maple (Nuclear maple)

Maple has a very interesting arrangement of leaves. Beautiful, carved, they are placed on the branches so that not one leaf obscures the other, and all the leaves receive the sunlight they need. Such a mosaic is created due to the different lengths of the petioles and the different sizes of the leaves themselves.

Maple is a beautiful ornamental plant. It grows fast, withstands air pollution. Maple is a high quality wood that is hard and easy to work and finish at the same time.

It is used for making furniture and in construction. Maple is used to make musical instruments; wood is also used in the production of plywood.

Maple. Interesting plant facts

Sycamore maple (Nuclear maple)

In Canada, sugar maple grows, which serves as an industrial facility for pumping sap for sugar. The closest relative of the American maple is the Norway maple. Spring maple sap, or sap as it is called, is an enzymatically dissolved reserve nutrient in water. Contains sap 3% sucrose and 3% reduced sugar. Properly harvested, maple sap has an amber color and the consistency of fresh honey.

In 1933-1934. in Belarus and the Urals, studies were carried out on tapping maples, which at that time showed the economic and technological efficiency of extracting maple sap. The most profitable was the tapping of maples of Norway and ash-leaved.

Sycamore maple (Nuclear maple)

To obtain juice on the trunk of maple trees, holes are made with a diameter of 1,5-2 cm, into which a groove is inserted. Juice is collected in buckets or glass jars with lids. From one hole you can get up to 3-4 liters of juice. After 2-3 days, the hole is clogged with a peg and a new one is made. Raw maple sap contains, in addition to sugars, proteins, vitamins. From one tree you can get up to 20-25 liters of juice per season.

Maple sap is also drunk fresh, but more often boiled into molasses. Currently, maple sap is occasionally harvested in Chuvashia, Bashkiria, Tatarstan, and the Southern Urals for making various juices, kvass, and drinks at home.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Graphene for bulletproof vest 30.12.2017

The special graphene coating is stronger than diamonds and can be used as a bulletproof material, said Angelo Bongiorno, associate professor of chemistry at Staten Island College.

Graphene and diamonds have the same carbon structure, but the atoms in these materials are arranged differently, which gives them different properties - differences in hardness, flexibility and electrical conductivity. The soft and flexible graphene coating proved to be the best bulletproof protection.

Scientists have managed to artificially create a unique bulletproof graphene that could actually save millions of lives around the world. A team of scientists from the Research Center for Advanced Study at Staten Island College claims that when hit with any fast-moving or heavy object, this graphene material becomes harder than diamond. This means that when a bullet hits a bulletproof graphene suit, it turns into the world's densest plate and absorbs all impacts.

The scientists named this thin material diamine.
