Marsh mustard, Peucedanum palustre

In Ukraine, there are five types of gorichnik. In Polissya and in the forest-steppe zone, the Dnieper and marsh gorniks are common, in the steppe - Crimean and large-leaved.

All species prefer grassy slopes of gullies, meadows and river valleys. They can also grow in steppe areas and slightly saline habitats.

In the Caucasus, in Western Siberia, in the Far East, the root of the mustard is used as food as a substitute for turnips. The roots of annual plants dug up in autumn or early spring are washed in water and boiled, finely chopped and seasoned with onions, butter, sour cream, chopped hard-boiled eggs are added.

To the table, the roots of the mustard are served as a vegetable side dish or salad.

In Europe, the leaves and seeds of the mustard are used as a spice in the manufacture of Swiss cheese.

Essential oil from seeds is an integral part of various ointments for the treatment of skin diseases. Roots and grass are used in homeopathy and veterinary medicine.

Gorichnik, Peucedanum. Tips for growing, harvesting and storing

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Gorichnik (Peucedanum) is a genus of plants of the umbrella family, which includes about 100 species. Some of them are used as medicinal and aromatic plants.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing boletus:

Cultivation:

  • Gorichnik prefers a sunny or semi-shady place and well-drained soils. It can grow in a variety of soil types, but grows best on loam and light sands.
  • Sowing seeds of the boletus is carried out in spring or autumn, with a seeding depth of 1-2 cm.
  • When growing gornik from seeds, it is important to observe the distance between plants, which should be about 30 cm.
  • Gorichnik can also be propagated by cuttings in early summer.
  • Cowberry plants do not require much maintenance, but regular watering and weed removal can encourage their growth.

Preparation and storage:

  • The leaves and seeds of the boletus can be harvested in early summer. Leaves are recommended to be collected before the plant blooms.
  • Dry the leaves in the shade or in the air, avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Store dried boletus leaves in glass jars or paper bags in a cool, dry place.
  • The seeds can be stored for up to two years in dry and cool conditions.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Using GPS partially disables the brain 25.03.2017

When using GPS to find a way, the areas of the brain that are responsible for navigation are turned off.

In the study, scientists from the University of Kent in the UK took part in 24 volunteers who were asked to move through a virtual model of Soho (London) to a specific point. Another test made their task easier - they had to follow the navigator. In both experiments, the brain activity of volunteers was recorded through special devices.

It was found that when moving independently, different parts of the brain were involved, and when using the navigator, they were partially "turned off" - the brain stopped reading information about the surrounding streets and simply led the body along the route.

It is noted that the temporary inactivity of some areas of the brain allows you to free up resources for other tasks.
