Scarlet fever - an acute infectious disease that causes hemolytic streptococcus. It releases a special toxin that destroys erythrocytes (red blood cells) and leads to trophic changes in the tissues of the oral mucosa. The throat becomes bright scarlet in color, then the skin turns red and an abundant small dotted rash appears on it. Most often, the causative agent of scarlet fever is transmitted by airborne droplets.

If the disease is mild, then after a week the child recovers. But scarlet fever is dangerous for its complications in the heart and kidneys. It can cause allergic myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) or glomerulonephritis.

Scarlet fever is treated with antibiotics, which must be prescribed by a doctor. You cannot take medication on your own.

The first symptoms of the disease

1. Severe intoxication, which is manifested by general weakness, rapid fever, headache, nausea and even vomiting.

2. Simultaneously with the first sign, a sore throat appears, especially during swallowing. Enlarged lymph nodes can be felt under the lower jaw and on the neck.

3. The baby's throat becomes bright red (flaming throat). The tongue takes on a bright crimson hue.

4. Purulent foci or plaque sometimes appear on the palatine tonsils.

5. On the first day of illness (!) a small bright red rash appears that covers the entire body of the child. It first appears on the face, and the hallmark of scarlet fever is the presence of a rash-free area of skin from the nose to the chin. The nasolabial triangle stands out for its whiteness against the background of the red skin of the face. Then the rash passes to the arms and legs, focusing on the elbows, armpits, inguinal folds and lower abdomen. The rash may appear as small, fluid-filled blisters. Sometimes children experience itching. The rashes last from 2 to 5 days, and then turn pale and peel off, while the body temperature decreases.

6. A characteristic symptom of scarlet fever: if a blunt object is passed over the reddened skin, a white strip remains, which does not disappear for a long time.

When to contact your local doctor

With the appearance of a characteristic rash and intoxication phenomena, which occur simultaneously with scarlet fever. No emergency assistance required. The district pediatrician will decide for himself whether the child needs hospitalization (in case of a very severe course of the disease).

What to do before the doctor arrives

1. Put the child to bed, isolate from other children, provide him with care and peace.

2. Offer your child to drink more to remove the effects of intoxication.

3. Feed your baby only when he wants to. The patient's food should be enriched with vitamins of groups B, C and P.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The car door won't get scratched 25.01.2012

Close parking spaces in the parking lot, drivers or passengers of neighboring cars who are not too careful when opening the doors - and now small, but so offensive scratches are already visible on the door. To protect against them, the owners of Soviet and Russian cars attached plastic protectors to the edge of the door. However, this decision spoiled the look of the car, so it did not take root on modern cars.

Ford has developed the Door Edge Protector, a protector that protects the door when open and is completely invisible when the door is closed. The mechanical design is very simple and consists of 22 parts (of which 8 are movable).

The rubber protective element extends when the door is opened, and when closed, it folds into a special niche at the end. This process takes only 60 milliseconds, so even if you quickly slam the door, the protector will have time to fold in a regular way.

The new system will be equipped with the Ford Focus model, including the Russian assembly, at the beginning of this year.
