General provisions

  1. The binder is appointed to the position and dismissed from the position in accordance with the procedure established by the Labor Code, by order _______.

  • technical requirements for bookbinding, types and methods of restoration of bookbinding;
  • properties of materials from which bound books and documents are made;
  • properties of adhesives used during restoration bookbinding, their formulation and preparation.
  1. In the case of performing more complex bookbinding and restoration work, he must know the rules for their implementation and have the ability to:
  • production of various types of endpapers (cap, glued, stitched, sewn);
  • sewing book blocks in different ways and methods;
  • manufacture of leather paper;
  • restoration of books in leather bindings (preparation of lubricating oil to soften leather bindings; making edging (braid from fabric);
  • removal and restoration of individual elements of the binding under the guidance of an artist-restorer.

II. Official duties

Bookbinder:

  1. binds documents (texts) manually;
  2. sorts cardboard, cuts it into a format along the longitudinal line, prepares the binding spine from technical fabric;
  3. selects documents (texts) by numbers and formats, collides sheets, puts sheets of cardboard from below and above, puts them into forms;
  4. drills holes, stitches documents (texts), seals the spine of the binding;
  5. prepares and sticks labels on the spine of the binding and on the top cover;
  6. monitors the technical condition of working tools;
  7. binds by hand old books and documents that need it;
  8. carries out restoration (binding) work, restores damaged bindings, disinfects them;
  9. strengthens and restores corners, edges, covers;
  10. prepares new bindings for rare, rare and especially valuable texts, strengthens old bindings;
  11. restores leather-bound books.

III. Rights

The binder has the right:

  1. To be present at the acceptance of an order for the execution of binding works.
  2. Provide opinions on the condition of documents sent to him to assess the condition of the binding (binding), the possibility and degree of restoration.
  3. Report to the management about all identified shortcomings and put forward proposals within their competence.
  4. To make proposals for the improvement of work related to the responsibilities provided for in this Instruction.
