The model of the S3A class rocket of the winner of the S.P. Korolev Cup in 2008, Igor Danilov, is made according to the well-known scheme, called "Chelyabinsk". Its main feature, a distinctive feature, is the tail section elongated to 165 mm. This made it possible to slightly lighten (about 0,5 g) the stern, to shift the center of gravity of the model upwards.

The case is molded from two layers of fiberglass with a thickness of 0,02 mm on a mandrel with a variable section: the minimum diameter is 10,2 mm, the maximum diameter is 39,9 mm. The fiberglass blank is spread on a flat surface and impregnated with epoxy resin, adding a colored pigment to it. For better "wetting" it is heated with a hair dryer. The mandrel, pre-treated (lubricated) with paraffin separating mastic, is clamped into the lathe chuck and a fiberglass blank is wound. After a short drying time, a magnetic tape is wound onto the resulting housing blank for a better (tight) fit of the fabric layers. The body diameters are brought to the dimensions indicated in the drawing.

The tail cylinder, 41 mm long, is wrapped with Kevlar thread to increase rigidity.

Having allowed the resin to polymerize, remove the tape from the case and process its outer surface at low machine speeds (about 300 - 400 rpm). Then they face to the required length, remove from the machine, slightly heat the mandrel and get the finished body.

Stabilizers (three of them) are cut out of a 0,3 mm thick balsa plate, the side surfaces are reinforced with fiberglass and lavsan film. It must be admitted that the area of the "feather" of the stabilizer of I. Danilov's model is one of the smallest used by rocket modellers, and is about 14 cm2. In addition, the thickness is the smallest. But I can say that the stabilizers are rigid. They are glued end to end to the body. To one, along the gluing line - attach the model suspension thread. She's made of Kevlar.

The head fairing 100 mm long is extruded from 0,3 mm thick polystyrene. The connecting sleeve with a diameter of 39,7 mm and a length of 45 mm is machined from foam ball. For a length of 15 mm, it is glued into the skirt of the head fairing. A loop is fixed to the bottom of the sleeve, to which a suspension thread and a halyard connecting to the sides of the parachute are tied.

The preparation of the model for launch is carried out in the following sequence. First, two foam wads 35 - 70 mm long are inserted into the body from above. This is done to prevent the parachute from sinking down at the moment of launch (according to Newton's law). And this entails a shift in the center of gravity of the entire model to the stern.

Then the parachute is laid, previously sprinkled with talc, and the head fairing is placed, while carefully threading the suspension thread. Immediately before the start, the MPO is fixed.

The flight weight of the model without engine and parachute is 5,7 g.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Efficient solar cell made from conventional silicon 03.05.2021

Scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) have created a solar cell with a conversion efficiency of 26% from classic single-crystal silicon, which has become a world achievement. The new technology is simpler than the previously proposed Interdigitated Back Contact (IBC) technology with contacts on the back of the cells and promises to approach the theoretical limit of silicon when converting solar energy into electricity.

Today, the vast majority of solar panels are produced from ordinary single-crystal silicon - over 90%. It would be tempting to increase the efficiency of such panels without complicating the technology and increasing the cost of production. The IBC technology promised to help with this, when both current-carrying contacts in the cells are created on the back side of the cell, which does not obscure the panel and allows better use of the volume of the element in the process of knocking out electrons by photons. Unfortunately, although IBC panels are close to 26% in terms of efficiency, their production is quite expensive, so they turned out to be unclaimed.

Researchers at ISE have been able to bring the efficiency of single-crystal cells closer to 26% in another way and even promise to go further - to achieve an efficiency value of 27% with a theoretical limit for silicon of 29,4%. This was achieved due to the special arrangement of conductive contacts on both sides of the cells, but these are not all changes.

The new cell is based on the TOPCon contact, which is a tunnel oxide passivated contact. The new development differs from the panels produced today in that the TOPCon contact is not located on top, but lies along the entire back side of the cell. This approach also made it possible to alloy with boron not the entire front surface, but only places under the second ordinary contact remaining there, which simplified and reduced the cost of production. Thus, the new cell was named TOPCoRE (element with TOPCon contact on the back side).

In addition to high efficiency, the new element delivers more voltage, and its operation is accompanied by lower losses due to surface recombination and due to efficient electron transport.
