NOKIA 6250

If a parallel with cars is acceptable, then this phone is an SUV. Despite the fact that it appeared a little later than the 6210 model, it is still quite difficult to see it on sale. Occasionally, individual specimens catch the eye, of course, in salons. This situation has developed primarily because of the sellers themselves, who believe that in our country such devices will not be in demand. Their fears can be understood given the very low sales of Ericsson R310s, another SUV that appeared on the market (in our country, anyway) a little earlier. The second reason is that Nokia is positioning the 6250 as a phone for daily use by people of various professions: from a road worker to a rural doctor, wandering in the rain in a remote Finnish village. In our country, it is hard to imagine a road worker with a cell phone at all, not to mention such an expensive model as this one, because its cost is 20-30 dollars more than the 6210. It seems to me that this phone would be extremely popular among people who are engaged in skiing, climbers, perhaps, at the Ministry of Emergencies, because according to the characteristics it suits all of them. It's a shame to watch the Minister of Emergency Situations talking on a regular phone, it's even more annoying when his subordinates do the same, but in extreme situations. Maybe they just don't know that similar phone models exist?!

But let's stop our lyrical digression and see what makes the 6250 model good and why it is protected.

Design features

This model is the first serial phone with built-in protection against water, dust and drops. Water protection, however, does not mean at all that you can go scuba diving with this phone - you can only wet it, but how !!! If you throw the phone into a bucket of water and pull it out after a minute, nothing will happen to the device (guarantee - 100%).

Mounts, SIM card installation, battery

As follows from the description, the phone is very durable and protected, which imposes some restrictions on its use. In particular, the back cover is fixed with a screw, which is most conveniently opened and closed with a screwdriver, this is done by simply turning the screw 45 degrees.

Such a locking mechanism securely fixes the cover and presses it to the body. The lid itself is made of plastic. A standard battery is hidden under it, removing which you can see the SIM card holder. In this model, the holder is very different from anything I have seen before. It is made in the form of a wire clamp, which strongly presses the SIM card to the contact area - the card practically does not crawl and does not move. The holder is opened by compressing the wire, more precisely by squeezing it and releasing it from under the edge of the iron edge. He is also fixed.

The battery in this model is 3.6 Volt, type BLL-2, i.e. lithium-ion with a capacity of 1200 mAh. As stated in the instructions, it can provide from 2.5 to 4.5 hours of phone talk time and 55 to 260 hours of standby time. In reality, these data, of course, are closer to the lower bar (testing took place only in the city). But everything is not so bad: the battery was enough for 4 days of work with frequent re-registrations in the network, 20-30 minutes of calls a day and, of course, the phone did not turn off at night. Yes, I completely forgot to say that about 10 SMS messages were sent from the phone per day.

The design features include rubber, pleasant to the touch keyboard keys. A big plus is the ability to work with the keyboard while wearing gloves. The set of difficulties did not cause, I did not even have to adapt, but it is problematic to quickly enter the number in this way.

Display, menus and more

One might have expected that the display of this model would be small (to ensure greater structural strength), but the developers acted differently: after all, sometimes it is important to see everything that is written on the phone screen. In general, the characteristics of the display are almost the same as those of the 6210, but due to the fact that the screen is recessed into the body, one gets the impression that it is somewhat larger. The display shows 3 lines of text, as well as a title at the top of the screen and shortcut labels at the bottom. I’ll make a reservation right away that I chose English (this can be seen in the photographs), but there is support for Russian, both in the menu and when writing SMS messages.

The undoubted advantage of this model should be considered that the battery charge indication, as well as the signal level indication, contains 7 divisions. Everything else is typical for Nokia phones, for example, you can move the clock to the corner of the screen. The backlight of the screen is green, it is stronger than in the 6210 model (the difference is clearly visible in daylight).

The menu is standard from Nokia. In this model, the menu does not consist of the usual ten items (main menu), but of as many as thirteen. The "Task journal" item has appeared, in which you can specify the time, date, as well as materials with their cost, necessary to complete a specific task. Here you can enter the name of the customer. Supported by the presence of an IR port in the phone and the existence of proprietary software for synchronization with a PC, this menu item becomes very interesting. There are a lot of settings and the need for similar devices does not arise, unless, of course, the tasks are simple, and for most people they are exactly like that.

The item "Clock" occupies a whole section, why it is done, you understand when you open it. Inside is a regular clock, alarm settings that rings only once (unfortunately, there are no settings for the days of the week). And finally, a timer, or rather a stopwatch. It's just a miracle: the stopwatch can be set so that it fixes individual points, which can be more than 100. All recorded values can be saved under a name of your choice and viewed at any time. There is a second option for working with a stopwatch: it is not the time that is measured, but the intervals between two clicks. The data obtained as a result of such measurements can also be saved under a name of your choice.

The last menu item is a sound level meter. The Nokia 6250 uses a built-in sound meter to adjust the speaker volume according to the ambient noise level. A very useful option in traffic conditions, I checked it for myself. Measurements take place in the range from 50 to 115 decibels, and in this range the exact values of the sound level are shown, everything that is lower or higher is already recorded as exceeding the thresholds. Nokia stresses that this instrument is not professional and should be treated with caution if accurate measurements are required. However, in everyday life, in my opinion, this is more than enough. I admit, the first few days I played with might and main with this function. As you already understood, the sound level can be measured not during a conversation.

Sound quality, sensitivity

The phone leaves an ambiguous impression: on the one hand, it's hard to find fault with the sound quality, because it's really good. But on the other hand, no matter how much you adjust the volume of the speaker in some cases, it remains unsatisfactory. Moreover, I did not notice a difference in the operation of the phone with the system for changing the volume of the speaker depending on the level of ambient noise and without it on the street, where it was quite noisy; maybe the whole point is that it is quite problematic to speak not at the maximum volume?! In my opinion, for this model it was necessary to make a larger spread of parameters for adjusting the volume and a more powerful speaker.

The sensitivity of the device is average, subjectively somewhat worse than that of the 6210. The vibrating alert, on the contrary, is slightly better than that of the 6210.

Other features

The phone has many additional features that partially repeat the options of the 6210 model, such as WAP browser 1.1. Up to 500 numbers can be entered in the notebook, and several phone numbers are provided for one name; Nokia 6250 allows you to save up to 50 pictures and 150 text messages. You will be helped by the system of accelerated input with T9 prediction (as usual, there is no support for Russian), which will save you time and effort. The phone comes with software for synchronizing the phone base with a desktop computer. This version of PC Suite allows you to create your own logos in the built-in graphics editor and then install them on your phone; edit entries in the phone database of numbers, manage groups of numbers, and set your own ringtones.

The built-in modem supports data transmission at speeds up to 14400. Using the infrared port, you can exchange entries from the phone book, logos and calendar entries with other phones.

The last, pleasant feature of this model is a voice dialing of up to 10 phone numbers. His work is not satisfactory even in conditions of high noise levels.

For this model, there are a large number of accessories, such as a charger for a car, telephone headsets in several versions, an RS-232 cable for communication with a computer.

Сonclusion

This is an ideal device for all kinds of trips, if we talk about ordinary people. For rescue workers, this device is also, in my opinion, ideal. It doesn't make sense to use the Nokia 6250 in urban conditions, because there is an almost similar Nokia 6210, but for kayaking trips this is it.

The build quality and reliability of the device are not in doubt, but I want to warn you right away that if problems arise, you will have to send the phone to Finland. Until today, our service centers have not learned how to re-assemble the case for this model, apparently, too expensive equipment is required. On the other hand, in order to break this phone, you will have to show remarkable abilities.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Diabetes is determined by tears 07.09.2012

In most cases, diabetes is diagnosed using sensors that measure blood glucose levels. But now scientists have created a new type of biological sensor capable of detecting minute concentrations of glucose in human tears, saliva and urine as well.

The innovative invention promises to significantly reduce the cost of diagnosing diabetes, since its manufacturing technology is low-cost and uncomplicated. This method will also be convenient for patients, since they do not have to constantly donate blood. The developers promise that with the introduction of this method, the number of injections will be significantly reduced or completely eliminated. "It's essentially a non-invasive way to measure glucose in the body," said one of the project leaders, Jonathan Klassen, a former Purdue University graduate student and now a researcher at the US Naval Research Laboratory.

The sensor that detects glucose levels consists of three main parts: nanosheets that resemble microscopic rose petals and are made of graphene, platinum nanoparticles, and the enzyme glucose oxidase. Each 'petal' is made up of multiple layers of graphene. Its edges have incomplete chemical bonds, that is, defects to which platinum nanoparticles can attach. Their connection with nanoplates forms electrodes. The glucose oxidase enzyme then attaches to the platinum nanoparticles. This enzyme converts glucose into hydrogen peroxide, which in turn sends a signal to the electrode.

The sensor is able to detect glucose at concentrations as low as 0,3 micromoles. Thus, it is much more sensitive than other biosensors based on graphene, nanocarbon tubes, graphite, and metal nanoparticles.

So far, the invention is used to diagnose diabetes, but the same technology can be successfully applied in other areas of medicine. It is enough to change one enzyme for another, and you can use this method in tests for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. It can even be used to control the degree of alcohol concentration in exhaled air. The method is economical and fast, and the test equipment is simple and portable.
