MOTOROLA V50

The design of the Motorola v50 will appeal to anyone who loves flip phones. The device fits comfortably in the hand, which is no wonder given its size (40 x 107 x 25 mm). The weight of the phone with the battery is also very small, only 88 grams. The phone is available in one color solution, there are devices only in silver color. It is worth noting that carrying a phone in a jeans pocket is very convenient: it fits freely there, does not create inconvenience and practically does not protrude the pocket.

Battery and SIM holder

This model uses a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery that has become standard for Motorola in recent years. The battery is fixed with the help of protrusions in the upper and lower parts, grooves are made in the case itself, and at the top the recess is equipped with clamping springs. Once fixed, these springs securely press the battery into the socket and prevent it from dangling. The battery compartment is covered with a separate plastic cover, which is fixed with a plastic lock-latch.

It is recommended to charge the battery for the first time according to the instructions for at least 14 hours, and you should not pay attention to the signal about the end of this process. In the future, a full charge of the battery from a discharged state takes about 2 - 2.5 hours. A regular travel charger is included in the package. According to the manufacturer, talk time is from 120 to 180 minutes, and standby time - from 40 to 100 hours. With an average intensity of using the phone in the city (15 - 20 minutes a day), the device was able to work for 3 full days without turning off for the night. These are very good indicators, indicating that the engineers managed to achieve low power consumption and economical use of resources. By setting the battery economy mode and setting the frequency of network search to medium or low, you can increase the battery life and, accordingly, the phone by 10 - 15 percent. There is a SIM card holder under the battery. This is a durable plastic construction used in many devices.

Display, keyboard

Opening the phone reveals the high-contrast Optimax graphic display. Its resolution - 96x54 pixels allows displaying up to 5 text lines of 18 characters each, as well as a line of icons and one more line of labels for service keys, in particular, for the OK button. All the information displayed on the screen is clearly visible even in bright light; in the dark, a soft green backlight helps, which is very pleasant and does not tire the eyes. It is possible to adjust the display contrast.

The keys located on the bottom panel of the phone are made of plastic. They are slightly recessed into the body, the distance between adjacent keys is sufficient. It seemed to me that dialing a number from the keyboard with one hand is not always convenient, which is primarily due to the small size of the device and, consequently, the buttons. However, if you do not think about it, you do not feel any discomfort.

The phone is turned on with a separate key. After switching on, the operator's name, signal strength, battery level and clock appear on the screen.

Menu navigation

This model has an atypical for Motorola menu in the form of lists, which is quite convenient. Entering the menu is carried out by pressing the corresponding key. Scrolling through the lists is smooth, if you are annoyed by some slowness of this process, you can turn off the animation, then the transition from one menu item to another will be almost instantaneous.

The lack of shortcut keys in the main menu and its submenus is compensated by the presence of short customizable shortcut menus. Firstly, you can assign frequently used functions to 9 keys (from 2 to 0), and secondly, you can set up to 9 voice tags for the menu. In my opinion, these features reconcile with the lack of shortcut keys.

The main menu is well structured, it is almost impossible to get lost in it. It consists of the following items:

  • Access Internet - wap-browser settings are hidden here, as well as the browser itself. Everything works without any problems and does not raise any questions, so I will not dwell on the description of wap in detail.
  • Phone book - phone book. Search in the book, editing records. The phone memory is designed for 100 numbers and 25 voice tags. Lists of the last 10 made, 10 received and 10 missed calls are also stored here. Some inconvenience, however, lies in the fact that when working with any list of the last 10 numbers, pressing the C key does not take you one level up, but immediately to the standby screen - again you have to climb into the menu. In the same paragraph, you can prohibit access to the memory of the phone or SIM card, a general ban is also possible.
  • Alarm Clock - Alarm clock. Finally, the Motorola phone properly implemented this function. For the alarm, you can set the mode of single, daily, weekly or weekly from Monday to Friday or from Monday to Saturday inclusive call, it is possible to enter a text reminder. Very convenient, and given that you can view a list of all set alarms and edit them, doubly convenient. In the list, alarm clocks are displayed according to the entered memo, if it is not there, there is an empty space opposite the alarm clock icon. Alarm clocks that have completed their function are marked in the list with a checkmark, but not deleted. You can set up to 5 alarms in total.
  • Call related features - here are collected functions related to calls in one way or another, for example, a large battery charge indicator, which, although it shows more divisions than the icon above, is still very approximate. This is due to the fact that when the battery is discharged, it does not show intermediate, more accurate values, but, like an icon, immediately reduces its readings by several divisions. That is, if its scale is taken as 10 units, then 3 units are reduced immediately. The same menu contains functions such as call forwarding, call waiting and disabling automatic answer when unfolding the phone.
  • Messages - Messages. From this menu, hotkey 1 accesses voice mail. Other items of this menu seemed more interesting to me, namely Received messages, where all incoming SMS are added, as well as Outgoing messages (Outgoing ...), where written, but not yet sent SMS are stored. Messages are created using the Message Editor. When writing, you can use the iTAP predictive text input system (English only). The main drawback of the editor that I found is that, after writing a message, you cannot simply delete it: you must first move it to the Outbox folder and only then delete it - you cannot exit the editor without saving the message. In the Messages menu there is an item Voice notes, but about it a little later. The last thing you can do in this menu is to configure broadcast messages.
  • Phone Setup - Phone settings. All the basic settings of the phone are hidden here: the volume of the call and its type (ring or vibration), setting the tone or ringtones (including for incoming messages), writing your own ringtone, setting up the quick access menu. In the same paragraph, all security settings are collected, from blocking the phone to changing the PIN code. Finally, here you can turn on the extended menu, save battery mode, turn off animations and select the menu language. - Network Selection - Network selection. Most users will not need this item. It allows you to set the network search speed, as well as select a network from the list, edit the list of preferred networks, which is useful when roaming.
  • Call meters - call counters. Allows you to know the time of the last call, as well as the total time of all calls. Here you can also set an audio timer that works during a conversation at the specified second, more precisely 10 seconds before the appointed time. The timer can be single or repeating. In this menu, you can enable the display of the talk time on the display. And finally, you can view the total counter of all calls made on this phone (the user cannot manually reset this timer).
  • Games - Games. An unusual menu item for a Motorola phone. Until recently, the devices of this company were characterized by asceticism, which was expressed, among other things, in the absence of games. The developers of this model, apparently, went to meet the wishes of users. There are three games in total: Tower of Hanoi, a logic game where you have to drag the pieces of the tower from one pole to another, which, in my opinion, is not interesting. Then there is baccarat, which is also extremely boring, since it does not require anything from the user other than bets and passive observation. The last game is more original, it is an arkanoid, which the author enjoyed playing.
  • Calculator, currency exchange. Everything is very standard and, as usual, not very convenient: few people can implement the calculator function on a phone at a decent level.

Voice functions

In addition to the already mentioned 9 voice tags for accessing menu items, there are 25 voice tags for calling numbers stored in the phone book. I was struck by how thoughtfully implemented the functions of working with the voice in this model, for example, all marks during recording must be spoken twice so that the phone can correlate them. Once, when I repeated the label entered earlier than necessary, the phone asked me to wait for the signal and only after that speak. But that's not all: trying to write the same label for different menu items led to the fact that the phone politely warned me that such a label already exists and that another word should be chosen !!! As they say, fantasy comes to every home.

Perfectly implemented voice recorder for three minutes. Within this time, you can make any number of entries, both in standby mode and during a call. In the latter case, every 10 seconds, the interlocutor will hear the recording signal, and 10 seconds before it ends, you will hear a sound warning. And the best part is that this phone has the function of selective editing and deletion of voice notes. If in other models, in order to free up space, it was necessary to delete all voice memos, then in this device you yourself can choose what to delete and what to leave.

You can set an alarm for each voice memo. That is, instead of typing the reminder text on the keyboard, it is enough to say it and set the alarm. Simple and easy. Yes, I completely forgot to say that to start and stop recording voice notes, there is a separate key located next to the antenna, at the top of the phone.

Call quality, sensitivity, ring tones and vibrating alert

In terms of such a parameter as communication quality, Motorola v50 occupies a worthy place among modern phones. The words are clearly distinguishable, with an uncertain reception, the sound sometimes becomes wadded, but it does not disappear. The sensitivity of the device, in my opinion, is also on top, even if compared with other Motorola phones - v3688 and v3690. The phone is 100% adapted to work in urban conditions. I involuntarily compared this device in terms of sensitivity with the Nokia 6210 and came to the conclusion that it is approximately the same for both models.

The number of melodies and ringtones in this model is very modest. I personally don't really like the tone of the call inherent in Motorola phones. It is possible to create your own melody, you can also send and receive a melody via SMS.

The vibrating alert is very strong: it can be felt even from the outerwear pocket. From such a small model, you do not expect such a powerful vibration, it could be the envy of phones with large sizes.

Сonclusion

In my opinion, this model is worth that kind of money: a well-thought-out menu system, the ability to customize the quick access menu, rich voice capabilities, talk timers, a wap-browser, a strong vibrating alert, and much more. The disadvantages include only minor problems with navigation in the menu (when instead of the top level you get to the idle screen). The rest of the phone is very nice.

Summing up, I would venture to suggest that by choosing this phone, the buyer will be very pleased with it. This model is fundamentally different in its internal content from other Motorola clamshells, and, perhaps, people who complained about the complexity of the menu of this company's phones will find that they like this device.

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
