MOTOROLA TIMEPORT T250

The large (standard for Motorola phones) package concealed a long-awaited new product. This phone is a completely new model among Motorola devices. It looks like the company is slowly starting to come to its senses.

The device looks completely new and quite unusual.

When we opened the box we found:

  • The apparatus itself;
  • Earpiece with microphone (hands free);
  • Clip on the belt (who does not know - this is a kind of lotion for wearing the device on the belt of pants, etc.);
  • Charger and adapter for "our" sockets;
  • Standard battery Li-ion 3,6v (500 mAh)
  • CD with software;
  • English and Russian instructions for the L-series;

Appearance and general characteristics

Motorola Timeport T250 is a tri-standard GSM900/1800/1900 phone. This model weighs 108 grams and has very small dimensions 130x46x23mm (without antenna).

The design is very decent. High-quality silver body fits comfortably in the hand. The thumb immediately falls on the voice recorder button (as in the 930th series) and the index finger, respectively, on the volume keys. Below them is a button for quick access to the phone book.

Of the main features and differences, I would like to note: a new and rather unusual blue screen backlight, the "Navi" key for scrolling through the menu, an infrared port for communicating with a computer. And, of course, a completely new design, unlike previous models (or slightly similar)

  • 3 games - Towers of Hanoi, Baccarat, Bricks

Display and menu

The display of this device is brand new. It has become larger than 96x64 pixels, up to 5 lines of 16 characters of text + a line of icons (top).

Also, the device can draw additional icons (alarm clock, voice recorder, mail, etc.) on top of the display.

What can I say - FINALLY! The menu has become human ...

The device menu consists of the following items:

  • Access to the Internet
  • Directory (new name for the phone book)
  • Diary *
  • Alarm *
  • Call functions
  • Messages
  • Phone setup
  • Network selection
  • Call counters
  • Calculator *
  • Games *

With the symbol * I marked completely new menu items, which until that time were not in any Motorola phone model (except for T2288, V2288 with the latest firmware). I will tell you more about them.

Diary

The diary is a simple event calendar where you can enter information about meetings, trips, etc. The device asks you to enter a text comment, the date and time the event started, as well as the duration and alert tone.

After the event has come - the phone will write the text you typed and turn on the reminder signal.

Alarm clock

Well, with this menu item, I think everything is clear. There are only two submenu items:

  • Set the alarm time (and you can program it so that it will ring once, daily, weekly or from Monday to the day you enter)
  • View alarm status

Calculator

The calculator in the Motorola phone is just a miracle and a clear plus.

Games

We have the opportunity to spend our time on three built-in games, namely:

  • towers of hanoi
  • Baccarat
  • Bricks (aka Break the Wall)

But otherwise, the menu branches of this device are no different from the same P7389 or 2288.

Thanks to the new appearance, the menu of the device has become more understandable and simple.

Sounds and conversation

So let's touch on a painful topic - the topic of call signals on the company's devices. Since 95, Motorola didn't want to change their ringtones in any way (except for one added melody).

And finally, a miracle happened - 6 new and again terrible melodies were added (although progress is evident).

Other types of signals remained unchanged.

The speech quality of this device is no different from Timeport, Talkabout series devices - it is very decent. The sound is loud. The sensitivity of the microphone is excellent.

Reception quality is top notch. The sensitivity of the receiver is not worse than that of the 2288, L, P - series. Of course, this is not a CD920/930, but by today's standards it is quite a powerful device.

I was pleased that the device is not buggy when working with the network (especially at its price of $300). Although some inconvenience when working with the menu was still observed. I want to warn you right away - turn off the menu animation and you will feel a complete buzz when working with the phone, because if you turn on this so-called animation, the device starts to slow down terribly. L

A fully charged battery, which is available in a standard package, is enough for an average of 2,5 hours of talk time (not taking into account the volume of melodies, vibrating alert and the remoteness of the device from the base station). The waiting time is also small and is 70-80 hours. I hope that replacing the battery with a more powerful one will fix the situation, but at the moment there are no special back covers for plump batteries. The phone comes with a pulse charger that charges the battery in 2,5 hours.

And finally the cons

The first thing I want to say is the terrible SIM card mount

Only Motorola could think of such a perversion. Not only are some parts on the device's board easily accessible, but you also need to tinker to remove an incorrectly inserted card.

The second thing that deserves attention is the same "Navi" key, which you constantly want to press left and right, but alas, you have to get used to the fact that it only presses up or down L

The rattling vibrating alert upset me too. Either the vibration motor is poorly isolated from the body, or I came across an unsuccessful copy, but the whole body of the device rattles from the vibration call.

Results pros:

  • beautiful, and most importantly new design
  • blue screen backlight
  • new features (organizer, calculator, alarm clock, games and other amenities)
  • good reception
  • voice recorder for 3 minutes
  • phonebook shortcut button
  • voice dialing for 25 numbers

Cons:

  • ill-conceived fastening of the SIM-card
  • inconvenient key for switching menu items ("Navi" key)
  • rather weak battery (standard)
  • slightly underdeveloped software
  • I was struck by the fact that the phone supplied to Ukraine is equipped with Russian instructions for L7089
  • unsuccessfully made vibrating call (perhaps it depends on the specific device)

Well, in general, the device is not bad. It's good that the company is working to improve communication and use of the device, changes the design (for the better, in my opinion), and adds new functions.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The share of renewable energy sources is growing 19.02.2022

In the European Union, renewable energy accounted for an average of 2020% of total energy used for space heating and cooling in 23, according to an update from Eurostat. The use of renewable energy sources for these needs in the EU is steadily growing. In 2004, RES accounted for 12% of the energy consumed for space heating and cooling, and in 2019 it was already 22%.

The level and growth of renewable energy consumption for heating and air conditioning is similar to that observed for renewable energy generation in the EU. In particular, in 2004 the share of renewable sources in the EU accounted for 10% of total energy production, and in 2020 - 22%.

Among Member States, Sweden stands out, where two-thirds of the energy (66%) used for heating and cooling in 2020 came from renewable sources - mainly from biomass and heat pumps. Estonia and Finland (58% each), Latvia (57%), Denmark (51%) and Lithuania (50%) follow Sweden's example, where more than half of the energy for heating and air conditioning comes from renewable sources.

In Estonia and Lithuania, the share of renewables in heating and cooling is 29 and 24 percentage points higher, respectively, than the total share of renewables in each. This is the highest difference among all EU countries. Where these countries buy surplus renewable energy for heat and cooling is not specified. Iceland also stands out, where 80% of RES for heating and cooling is used (mainly due to geothermal energy).

Renewables contribute the least to heating and cooling in the EU in Ireland (6%), the Netherlands and Belgium (8% each). At the same time, the share of energy generated in these countries from renewable sources is higher, respectively, by 6% and 5%. Perhaps this is the surplus of renewable energy sources or part of them that are supplied to Estonia and Lithuania for use in the field of space heating and cooling.
