ERICSSON T65. Mobile phone review Review The T65 does not have an external antenna, which makes its dimensions quite small - 105 x 49 x 21 mm and weighs 94 grams. The device is available in three colors - cosmic blue, polar blue and stardust yellow - all colors are interesting and look attractive. Under the silver border of the screen, common to cases of different colors, there is a service indicator in the upper left corner (previously the indicator was placed on the top edge of the phone). The appearance of the T65 is noticeably enlivened by the insert of light plastic along the side edges of the case. Turning the phone around, you will see two rubber volume keys on the left side surface. At the top there is a SIM card holder - a slide that extends from the end of the phone and snaps back after you insert the card. In order to pull out the slide, you have to make a lot of effort - it’s better to do this with some object without breaking your nails. The unusual design of the SIM card holder is due to the fact that the battery in the phone is permanently installed and cannot be replaced: the back cover of the device is sealed. Naturally, the service center will be able to disassemble this phone, but this does not mean that the user will have access to the battery. In general, when purchasing a T65, you will have to be content with only a standard battery. According to the manufacturer, a phone with a 720 mAh lithium-ion battery installed in it can work from 2.5 to 11 hours in talk mode and from 160 to 300 hours in standby mode. In real conditions, the device really works for a long time: with a small number of conversations (up to 10 minutes), active use of two alarm clocks and reminders for every day, the T65 functioned for 5 days. With 30-40 minutes of calls, the phone worked for about 3 days. The full battery charge time is about one and a half hours. It is impossible to increase the operating time of the phone, even by changing the battery at a service center, since other batteries are simply not provided for this model. But to reboot the phone (in case of a software error), you just need to pull out the slide with the SIM card - simple and effective! Let's move on to the keyboard. A fairly comfortable 4-way navigation key with a recess in the center, like the call and end call buttons, is made of plastic; the rest of the keys are rubber, covered with silver paint and, by the way, small. Using them is difficult at first, but over time you get used to it and no longer experience discomfort. The blue key is used to open the context menu when navigating on the phone or to open the WAP browser in standby mode. The main problem is that if your wap browser is not configured, and you press this key in standby mode, the phone freezes. As an option, you can suggest removing the SIM card and turning on the phone again, or wait until the device comes out of the clinch on its own (this may take 5 minutes). Display, menu, phone capabilities The T65's large 4-gray graphics display can display 6 lines of text at minimum font size or 4 lines at standard font size. As you already understood, the user chooses the font size (there are three in total); the standard one, in my opinion, is the most comfortable to use. It should also be said that the screen has a resolution of 101x67 pixels with physical dimensions of 36.4 x 29 mm. The green backlight is somewhat dark, but in most cases there are no problems with the display's illumination. The address book in the phone memory allows you to save up to 300 numbers; for one name the following data is entered: First name, Last name, three phone numbers, email address - for 10 numbers you can also set a picture that will be displayed when this subscriber receives an incoming call. The pictures are selected from those intended to be sent with SMS messages; there are quite a lot of them. It is necessary, however, to remember that the numbers must be entered in their entirety, that is, with the code. The maximum number of email addresses that the book can store is 10. Voice tags can be assigned to 42 subscribers in the phone book, and different types of numbers can be dialed out of the box. So, to call home, work and mobile numbers, separate tags are recorded, which are pronounced after the main one - the subscriber’s name. The T65 has 14 ringing signals (including 4 tones), and it is possible to record up to 8 of your own melodies. Everything is ordinary and very uninteresting. Ericsson phones today are inferior to devices from other manufacturers, perhaps only in this parameter. In the Messages menu you have access to writing and reading SMS messages, and you can create your own templates. There is a traditional built-in email client (POP3 & IMAP4) that allows you to retrieve mail from your mailbox. In this version of the software, you must specify the mail server address in digital form (IP address), otherwise the client will not work. Naturally, the T65 supports input in Russian; moreover, while typing, you can switch from one language to another, which is extremely convenient. There is no T9 dictionary for the Russian language, which is a pity: it really speeds up typing SMS messages in Russian. The list of calls in the phone is combined - up to 30 entries in total indicating the time, date and type of call (outgoing, incoming, missed). Separately, you can view only the list of missed calls; all the others are combined and called from the standby mode by pressing the call send key. The phone has 7 profiles that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding user. You can assign voice commands to change profiles, which is very convenient. When you turn on the energy saving mode, only the name of the operator is displayed on the screen, followed by a line indicating the time and icons of signal levels and battery charge. If you do not find it necessary to save energy, you can customize one of 5 screen savers (3 out of 5 are completely new). Wap browser in T65 version 1.2.1, in a device with R2B firmware its setup is not difficult, but it is better to do it on a clean phone (after Master Reset) with a menu in English. Otherwise, problems are possible: you cannot enter the corresponding menu - and the phone hangs. It is possible to configure wap operation via GPRS (3+1) (GPRS settings are the same as in other Ericsson models). In general, with skillful setup, the phone is quite functional: even on a phone with R1A firmware that does not support Cyrillic, it is possible to display the Russian language on wap pages. The organizer in the T65 is standard; it allows you to create up to 300 marks and up to 80 tasks, the number of which depends on the length of the accompanying text, since the memory is allocated dynamically. It is possible to synchronize calendar data with a PC, and the data on the phone can be viewed both for the day and for the week. When viewing a calendar for a month, the numbers for which tasks have been set are highlighted in bold - this is inconvenient if you constantly use the organizer. In total, you can enter several types of events: Trip, Memorable date, Meeting, Vacation, Call, Anniversary, Miscellaneous. For tasks, an additional list is provided that allows you to enter information about the need to make a call, send a message, or do something else. So, when a reminder to send a short message is triggered, you are immediately taken to the message dialing menu, which is very convenient. The phone will remind you about events from the calendar with a call and vibration signal, after which it will prompt you to select the current profile. The device has a calculator, countdown timer, stopwatch, code memo, two alarms - daily and simple. At your leisure, you can play one of 3 games - Tetris, a game (essentially a space arcade game, but that's what its name is) or E-maze. In the Games menu you can find the Biorhythm item, which will help you calculate your biorhythm for a certain number - everything is very simple, understandable, and most importantly - original. Subjective impressions The sound quality of the T65 is very good, the sensitivity is also high, somewhat worse than that of the Ericsson T39m, but without obvious problems. In an area with a weak signal, if the network is lost, the device quickly registers again. In an area with very poor reception, the sound quality deteriorates, frames drop out during a conversation, the phone tries to maintain a connection - the price for this is poor audibility. The vibration alert in the T65 is quite decent. The ringer volume is enough for most cases; it cannot be called quiet. The minor issues listed above are software related and I believe will be fixed in future versions of the software. But today this model, with its rich capabilities (EMS support, packet data transfer, large notebook), is fully usable. The phone's disadvantages include the lack of an infrared port (as a consequence the need to have a cable) to synchronize phone book and organizer data.
