ALCATEL 310

No sooner had Alcatel 511 appeared on the shelves than the company is already releasing model 311. Distinctive features of the Russian version are marking 310, localization of the interface and the absence of a wap-browser. The model is intended for the youth audience, which primarily affected the price of the phone (let me remind you: Alcatel 310 is an entry-level device, however, it is located closer to the upper bar than to the lower one in this segment).

By design, the 310th model is very similar to the 511th: the same design of the back cover, the same plastic with a silver coating (aluminum color). The dimensions, however, have become larger - 103 x 44 x 24 mm, while the weight of the phone has increased slightly - up to 99 grams, which is not bad for a device of this class. Youth status of the phone is emphasized by the possibility of changing the front panels. Initially, the device is sold with a panel installed in one of 4 standard colors: blue (Composite Blue), red (Orient Red), gray (Urban Grey) or dark blue (Storm Blue). The colors of the additional panels can be viewed on the Alcatel website, and I would like to note that some of them are very interesting. New panels cost about 16 euros, which is not an extremely cheap offer, but you should not expect panels from third-party manufacturers just yet.

Localization changed not only the software of the phone, but also the appearance of the keyboard: the letters of the Latin alphabet turned into Cyrillic. It is now very easy to type short messages or work with a notebook in Russian, but it has become difficult to enter texts in English. The yellow backlighting of the keys in some conditions (bright light, for example) makes the inscriptions indistinguishable.

The send and end keys are combined into one, next to it there is a three-way navigation key that responds to pressing (OK), and can also be moved up or down - in this way, in particular, you can navigate through the menu. Unlike the 511 model, the navigation key is tighter and harder to press, but at the same time, the accuracy of moving through the menu has increased. On the left in the top row is the C key, which also serves to turn the phone on/off. The plastic keyboard is painted in silver color. The dimensions and distance between the numeric keys are such that it is comfortable to work with them, the buttons of the bottom row, however, are inconvenient to press, but they are often not used, although there is a number 0 there.

The battery in the 310th model is nickel-metal hydride with a capacity of 700 mAh. According to the manufacturer, it can work up to 260 hours in standby mode, up to 5.5 hours in talk mode. During testing, the phone really showed its best side: it worked for about 3 days with 40-50 minutes of calls. Those. with 10-12 minutes of talks per day, the device needs to be recharged every three days; Full charge time is about 2 hours. With a minimum number of conversations Alcatel 310 can work much longer - up to 5 days. Let me remind you that Alcatel 511 works a little less on a single charge (3 days at 7 minutes a day), although it has a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery. So in this parameter, the 310th is superior to the older model.

The charger plug is located on the side surface next to the headset jack, which makes it impossible to charge the phone and use the headset at the same time: the plugs interfere with each other.

The display of the 310th model is similar to that installed in the 511th: the same resolution of 96x65 pixels, displaying up to 6 lines of text with a minimum font size or up to 4 with a normal one. In the Russian version of the device, changing the font size is not provided. The backlight of the screen, however, is not emerald, but amber, making the information on the screen easy to read.

Menu, settings, features

In terms of capabilities, the device is almost identical to the 511th model, with the exception of some details, which will be discussed below. I will give a few key phrases from the review of the 511th model.

In standby mode, the phone screen displays the clock, date, operator's network name, signal strength, battery level (3 bars), as well as a graphic saver, if it is activated. To get to the menu from the standby mode, just press the navigation key; its deviation up brings up the Messages menu, down - the phone book.

The main difference between the 310th model and the previous one is the support of the Russian language, the ability to quickly switch between Latin and Cyrillic. Unfortunately, the length of the name in Russian in the phone book is only 5 characters, which is very small. And, since the phone book is only in the memory of the SIM card, the entries have to be re-entered in English or, at least, in Latin. As a result, it turns out that it is advisable to use Russian-language input only when writing short messages. The phone book allows you to enter up to three numbers for one name, all of which are stored on the SIM card (up to 250 numbers). A SIM card control function is provided: when changing the card, the phone asks the user whether this card is temporary or permanent. If you answer that the card is temporary, only one number can be entered per name. When returning a permanent card, the structure of the phone book will be saved, and if another card is named the main one, the structure of the old one will not be saved. On other devices (Nokia 6210), the entries for the same name from the Alcatel 310 phonebook look like three entries with the same name but different phone numbers.

Russification of the device did not change the quick search by the first letter of the name. Now, when pressing the keys, first Russian names (if any) starting with the selected letter are displayed, then entries in English. If desired, records can be divided into three sections - service, personal and others. For numbers "organized" into groups, it is possible to select a personal variant of the call; for a separate entry in the phone book, such an option is not provided.

The phone does not have voice dialing or a voice recorder, which makes it fundamentally different from Alcatel 511.

When working with SMS, you can create templates in any language yourself, there are several pre-installed Russian-language templates. Messages are stored only on the SIM card, for EMS there is a separate memory of about 55 KB, in which pictures or melodies can be stored. The phone supports not only receiving, but also sending pictures along with a short message (there are enough of them in the device), emoticons (smiles) and melodies. Sending these messages to EMS-enabled phones shouldn't be a problem. Russian-language texts are received and sent without difficulty, but there is no Russian T9 dictionary in the phone.

By the way, pictures can not only be sent to another device, but also used as a screen saver; they look nice, and the number of pictures is such that you can change them almost daily.

The phone has 27 melodies and ringtones, you can create your own melody. Polyphonic melodies are somewhat rough, but you can hear them well. The vibrating alert is also quite strong - you can even hear it in a quiet room. The user himself sets the type of call: just a sound, only a vibrating alert or a mixed mode, when the vibrating alert is activated several times and then a melody is heard. The built-in speakerphone is subjectively a little quieter than the 511 model, but still has a sufficient volume level.

There are no games on this phone. But there was an alarm clock, which, like other reminders, works when the phone is turned off. The alarm clock is extremely simple: set the time and choose a melody. The same can be said about the organizer (up to 5 events) and birthday reminders (also up to 5 dates). The organizer event can be programmed to fire once, repeat daily or weekly. There is a calculator and a currency converter.

Subjective impressions

The 310th model is identical to the 511th in terms of communication quality and sensitivity. The same pleasant sounding dynamics, good work in urban environments. The differences between the phones are very minor; some functions have been removed from the device, since the 310th is a cheaper version of the older model. The main innovations are Cyrillic support, Russian letters on the keyboard. Unfortunately, there is no Russian T9 dictionary, and I doubt that it will ever appear in this model.

Records of repeated, incoming and missed calls with the date and time of the call are combined into one list, which is called by pressing the send call key.

During a conversation, the time of the current connection is fixed on the screen, and at the end of the communication session, the total time of all conversations is displayed. When a call comes in, the display backlight turns on, after a while it turns off automatically (if you press the menu key, it turns on again).

The SAR value for this model is 0.28 W/kg (per 10 grams of tissue) or 0.47 W/kg (per 1 gram of tissue).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Edible adhesive tape 01.06.2022

A group of Johns Hopkins University students have developed what may be the world's first edible duct tape that will keep a burrito or shawarma from falling apart all the time.

Edible "gluer" was called "Tastee Tape". It consists of a "food grade fibrous scaffold and an organic adhesive" that ensures that the ingredients in the burrito don't fall out during cooking or while eating.

Tastee Tape can be used on any type of food, including tortillas, tacos and gyros.

Students are currently applying for a patent, so they cannot disclose the full composition of the duct tape. However, they note that "all the ingredients are safe to consume, the tape consists of foodstuffs and conventional nutritional and dietary supplements."

The product is supplied in pre-cut XNUMXcm strips attached to sheets of waxed paper. In order for it to become sticky, it is enough to put water on it.

Potentially edible glue can be used not only for rolls and burritos: for example, it can glue a cake or fix any culinary mistakes.
