Do you want to relax and indulge in sweet inactivity, lying in the sun in a comfortable deck chair, in a cozy corner of a country cottage? Seductive, right? To accomplish this, a little preparatory work is required, accessible, as the Bulgarian magazine Direct Yourself testifies, to any industrious summer resident. Following the suggested recommendations, it will be possible to make this tempting sunbed for the hot summer period at no special cost.

A deck chair is always practical and convenient, but especially if you want to get a good tan. The design, despite the apparent massiveness, is very mobile and easily moves on built-in furniture wheels to any part of the site, following the sun.

There are only three main elements in the design: this is a frame, a movable headboard and sheathing (of the lounger itself and its head part).

Frame

It consists of two sidewalls, front and rear vertical crossbars and one middle, horizontal one. Sidewalls can be made of boards or chipboard. Symmetry and figurative identity of these parts can be easily given using a template cut out of cardboard according to the pattern proposed on the scale grid.

The crossbars of the frame are plank; they are connected to the sidewalls with the help of bosses (front and rear) and slats (middle). In the head part of the frame, along the vertical ends of the sidewalls, sheathing is made of the same planks as the main lounger. It plays not only a decorative role, but also serves as a support for adjusting the inclination of the headboard.

Head

Its cranked part is made of two pairs of narrow boards, the main of which are load-bearing, having a hinged connection at one end with the sidewalls, at the other with serrated support knees. The latter are connected in their lower part by a cross-beam, which gives the overall rigidity to the headboard and provides support to the inner cross-beam of the frame at its highest rise. The remaining positions of the inclination are achieved by the stop of the toothed part, including the front skin of the frame.

The knee-bearing headboards have their own sheathing, smoothly turning into the general sheathing of the lounger. Knee joints can be M6 bolts with washers and nuts (or wooden pins with appropriate cotter pins).

The main details of the deck chair (click to enlarge): 1 - sidewall; 2 - external and internal vertical crossbars; 3 - middle horizontal cross member; 4 - support bar of the horizontal cross member (2 pcs.); 5-wooden boss (2 pcs.); 6-bearing headboard knee (2 pcs.); 7 - supporting (toothed) headboard knee (2 pcs.); 8 - headboard support bar; 9-hinges (bolt with washer and nut); 10 - sheathing (wooden planks); 11 - screws; 12 - gasket (rubber strip); 13 - furniture wheel (2 pcs.)

Sheathing

It is made of wooden planks of the same thickness and width with ventilation gaps between them measuring approximately the thickness of the plank.

The slats are fastened with nails along the entire upper contour of the sidewalls, reaching the rear end of the frame, and in front - up to the headboard sheathing.

Such a cover of the lounger provides the necessary comfort even without a bedding, although it does not interfere, being made as a light mattress or a blanket or blanket folded in half.

Moving

To make it easier to remove the deck chair from the room to the lawn or move it around the site, two furniture wheels with a wide "chassis" are attached to the bosses connecting the crossbar with the sidewalls in the back of the frame. The level of installation of the bosses themselves is selected so that the wheels touch the ground only when the front of the frame is raised to move the deck chair. In this case, the role of the handles is played by the strips of the front skin of the frame.

Finish

Since a deck chair is furniture for relaxation, it must be bright, colorful, and elegant. Therefore, painting all visible parts of it with oil paints is suitable as a finish, varying their color in accordance with the own taste of the craftsman who made the chaise lounge. The only clue here is to paint the sidewalls in a pleasant green color, and the trim strips should be painted in pairs, alternating shades of paint through two strips - this will save you from excessive variegation.

Before painting, all surfaces must be carefully treated with sandpaper so that there are no nicks and roughness. The paint is first applied diluted so that it is well absorbed into the wood, and then, after drying - a normal consistency, creamy density, in several layers with intermediate drying.
