How do Eskimos build their igloos? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? How do Eskimos build their igloos? For most of us, the word "igloo" refers to a dwelling built of snow. But this word can be applied to any kind of Eskimo dwelling, not necessarily built of snow. In addition, it can be not only housing, but also a school, church or even a railway station. Only the Eskimos, who live in Canada and northern Greenland, still build their dwellings from snow and use them only in winter. Such a winter dwelling is built from frozen snow, which is pressed into neat blocks. Snow contains hundreds of air particles that provide excellent protection from cold weather. Eskimos build igloos very quickly. Snow blocks are cut out 0,5 meters long, 46 cm wide and 13 cm thick. They are laid in a circle with a diameter of 3,5 meters, tilting slightly inward, and then spiraling upwards to form a dome. A hole remains open at the top for air to enter the needle. Inside the dwelling, snow blocks are covered with animal skins. Sometimes several igloos are connected by a tunnel so that Eskimo families can visit each other without going outside. The Eskimos of Alaska never built snow houses. Their winter dwellings were partly underground. White settlers in Alaska once showed local Eskimos how to build an igloo. The people of Alaska were very surprised - they had never seen a snow igloo before. In summer, almost all Eskimos live like tourists in tents. Author: Likum A. Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia: Why do people stutter? The most complex and demanding musical instrument imaginable is probably the human vocal apparatus. It includes the abdomen, chest, larynx, mouth, nose, tongue, palate, lips, teeth. The most important when reproducing sounds are the muscles of the mouth, palate, lips, and tongue. The only reason why we can play this musical instrument so well is because we learned it in early childhood. If we cannot play this musical instrument perfectly, then our speech becomes incorrect and defects appear in it. One of these defects is stuttering. Stuttering is the result of a spasm in one or more of the organs involved in speech production. The flow of words is suddenly interrupted. There is a pause. Sometimes this happens as a result of quickly repeating the sound in a row, on which we originally stopped. There are many degrees of stuttering. This can be either a slight inability to pronounce the final letters or syllables, or a situation where the spasm completely fetters the muscles of the tongue and larynx. Stuttering rarely appears before 4-5 years of age. A child may begin to stutter if something has happened to one of his sound-producing organs. Very often, the cause of stuttering is emotional excitement. A stuttering person is usually most troubled by explosive consonants: "b", "p", "d", "t", "k", solid "g". These consonants are formed as a result of stopping the movement of air and pressure on the lips, followed by a sudden explosion of the air flow and its exit through the open lips. Try it yourself: say the sound "b". Really explosive. Stuttering is often corrected if a person follows the rules of reading and slowly, carefully pronounces each syllable. Of course, if stuttering is based on an emotional disturbance, then a doctor's advice and a special course of treatment are needed.
