Who is Elena Troyanskaya?

In ancient Greece, there were many myths and legends about gods and people. The most beautiful woman in Greek mythology was Helen of Troy. Her mother was a mere mortal Leda, and her father was the god Zeus. It was believed that Elena was so beautiful that anyone who saw her was amazed. As soon as Helen reached the height of femininity, the most beautiful and powerful rulers of Greece began to seek her hand. There were a lot of admirers, and her stepfather, the king of Sparta, made them swear that they would remain loyal to the man who would become Helen's husband.

The choice fell on Menelaus, the richest and most powerful of all suitors. He later became king of Sparta, and he and Helen lived happily ever after. The goddess of love Aphrodite wished to reward a man named Paris - the son of the Trojan king Priam. She promised to give Paris the most beautiful woman of mortals. Paris sailed to Sparta. There he saw Elena and fell in love with her. Paris persuaded Helen to leave Menelaus and flee with him to Troy. Menelaus became angry and vowed to destroy Paris and bring back Helen. Remembering the promise made by Helen's suitors, he asked them for help in the war against Troy.

In the epic poem "Iliad" the great Greek poet Homer tells about the last battles of this war, about the death of many great heroes of Greece and Troy. The Trojan War probably took place around 1200 BC, but no one knows exactly why it started. The story of Elena the Beautiful may be just a legend. During the war, Paris was killed and Troy was destroyed. Helen begged Menelaus to forgive her, and the king agreed. They returned to Sparta. But there is a legend that after the death of Menelaus, Elena was taken from her palace to the island of Rhodes.

Why do Chinese people burn painted paper money at funerals?

Many Chinese believe that after death they will go to the underworld. Their ideas about hell are based on the Taoist concept of an underground court, where the soul of the deceased flew, and strengthened thanks to Christian missionaries, but the Chinese perceive hell not in a negative light, but as a world of spirits. So that the deceased could give a bribe to the ruler of hell, Yanlo-Wang, to avoid punishment and just live with dignity in the next world, a ritual of burning specially drawn paper banknotes is common in China. Traditionally, such money was made from bamboo or rice paper, applying simple designs, but from the end of the 19th century banknotes stylized as yuan and dollars began to be widely used. Along with traditional symbols such as dragons, Buddha or the Jade Emperor, these money often features images of popular personalities such as John F. Kennedy, Einstein, Marilyn Monroe.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

POS-terminal with biometric identification 16.12.2013

Fujitsu and PulseWallet have developed an innovative POS terminal that uses biometric technology to provide users with maximum security. The main innovation of the terminal was the PalmSecure biometric identification technology. After going through the registration process, users can make payments without plastic cards - they only need to touch the terminal with their palm.

Fujitsu's biometric palm scanners use near-infrared light to scan the entirety of the user's palm and create a unique biometric template. The terminal then compares this template with the snapshot provided during registration and decides whether the user can be granted access. The service is completely sterile, since users do not need to touch the terminal - just raise their palm.

PulseWallet terminals also offer other innovative services, such as storing the transaction history of each individual user and special offers in the user's virtual profile. "From the very beginning, we have been looking for an ultra-secure and accurate biometric authentication technology to integrate with our solution. User registration must be seamless for all customers, and POS verification must be fast," said Aimann Rasheed, CEO of PulseWallet. .

Biometric technologies are certainly of interest to banks, the likelihood of their use in the near future is quite high, Valentina Kuzmina, director of the department of payment cards at Promsvyazbank, is sure. "The question of how quickly they will find a working implementation is still open. However, venture projects using biometric identification are already appearing on the market," the expert emphasizes.
