When was the umbrella invented?

We are used to using an umbrella to protect us from the rain. But in reality the umbrella was not invented for this purpose. Its first purpose was protection from the sun's rays! No one knows the inventor of the umbrella, which was used already in very ancient times.

It is believed that the Chinese were the first to make an umbrella. This was back in the XNUMXth century BC! It is known that the umbrella was used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a shield from the sun. An interesting fact is connected with its use - it has become a symbol of power. In ancient times in the Far East, only a member of the royal family or high-ranking courtiers could use an umbrella.

In Europe, the inhabitants of Ancient Greece were the first to use an umbrella. However, there is an opinion that the first Europeans who used an umbrella to protect themselves from the rain were the Romans. In the Middle Ages, the use of the umbrella practically ceased. It then reappears in Italy at the end of the sixteenth century. Again, it was seen as a symbol of power.

Around 1680, the umbrella appeared in France, and later in England. In the eighteenth century, the umbrella was used to protect against rain almost throughout Europe. During all this time, the shape of the umbrella has changed slightly, they have become only a little lighter. Colored women's umbrellas began to be made only in the XNUMXth century.

Who invented stockings?

Stockings were originally made from leather to protect the legs. But even the very idea of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbprotecting the legs in this way became widespread only with the advent of Christianity.

The first people who tried to make a stocking similar to today's were the French. In the XNUMXth century they wore leather stockings to protect and keep their feet warm. Soon people wanted to have more attractive stockings. So there were factory stockings made from a combination of pieces of cloth, silk or velveteen. Stockings were often embroidered with gold, and were worn by secular people.

The first stockings woven from combed wool appeared in London around 1565. Queen Elizabeth received a gift of silk stockings, which made such a favorable impression on her that since then she began to wear them constantly. These silk stockings were made in Italy and only very rich people could afford to have them. Only at the beginning of the XNUMXth century did silk stockings become available to ordinary people.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
