An Eye for an Eye
Bible
Phraseologism: Tooth by tooth.
Meaning: A symbol of revenge, blood feud, etc.
Origin: From the Bible. In the Old Testament (Leviticus, 24:19-20) it is said that in the code of laws for the Jews, God also established such a rule: "Whoever damages the body of his neighbor, he must do the same thing that he did. A fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth: as he did damage to the body of a man, so it must be done to him. It is also found in other places of the Old Testament (Deuteronomy, 19:21, Exodus 21:24). Although this covenant is found in the Bible - Holy Scripture, nevertheless, it cannot be attributed to the norms of proper Christian morality, bequeathed by Christ, since it condemns the revenge committed by man. This form of regulation of relations between people (tit for tat) was born in pre-Christian, Old Testament times.
Random phraseology:
Criticism is easy, art is difficult.
Meaning:
An answer to a person who is too carried away by a critical analysis of someone else's work (jokingly ironic).
Origin:
Wrongly attributed to the French poet Nicolas Boileau. From the play (act. 2, scene 5) "The Vain" ("Le glorieux") by the French playwright Philip Nerico Detouches (1680-1754). The play was first staged in 1732. |

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
