Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Photovoltaic glass in a residential building 12.09.2023

Panasonic has announced the launch of the world's first long-term demonstration tests of perovskite photovoltaic glass integrated into residential windows. These tests will continue until the end of next year in the city of Fujisawa. Panasonic photovoltaic windows are able to generate electricity while remaining clear or tinted.

These photovoltaic windows provide reliable protection against power supply interruptions, especially during the frequent natural disasters experienced in Japan. In addition, they provide environmentally friendly energy supply for residential and office buildings. The development of photovoltaic glass with the function of generating electricity was announced by Panasonic in 2020 and is now ready for mass production.

According to Panasonic, its perovskite photovoltaic glass has the highest efficiency of any solar cell of its type, reaching 17,9% for cells larger than 800 square centimeters. In terms of efficiency, they compete with silicon solar panels, but have the advantages of transparency and lightness.

In practice, photovoltaic glazing will be tested on a small area. In the pilot house, the company will install photovoltaic windows on one of the loggias with windows oriented to the southeast. The glazing dimensions will be 3876 mm wide and 950 mm high.
