Hold on to your aunt's tail

Winged words
Winged words

Phraseologism: Hold on to your aunt's tail.

Meaning: About patronage, nepotism.

Origin: An expression from A. Frank's humorous poem "The Tail" (80s of the XNUMXth century). The lion, "the lord of the beasts", ordered all the animals to gather in the forest: among the animals hurrying to the meeting, there was a piglet, large animals would have completely pushed it, but he met his aunt, the boar cleared the way for them, and the piglet came one of the first: " Yes, how did he get ahead? // Holding on to the aunt's tail!

Random phraseology:

Tabula rasa.

Meaning:

Pure mind, uncorrupted consciousness.

Origin:

From Latin: Tabula rasa. It is first encountered by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC) as a designation of the original, "pure" state of human consciousness, that is, the consciousness of a child. The philosopher compares it with a waxed writing board, which was used in ancient Greece - tabula. On it, simply by smoothing the wax, it was easy to remove the previously written text and, having made it thus clean, write anything on it. So in the "pure" mind of the child, you can "write" everything that parents and teachers want. Then the English philosopher Locke (1632-1704) used this expression in the same sense and made it popular.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. More than enough water on Mars 17.10.2007

The radar installed on the European spacecraft "Mars Express" shines through the planet to a depth of more than three and a half kilometers. He was able to detect not deep below the surface, as well as in the recesses of the relief, accumulations of ice with a diameter of 50 to 200 kilometers and a giant ice dome with a diameter of about a thousand kilometers.

If all these ice reserves melted, Mars would be covered by an ocean 11 meters deep. Whether they will melt is another question. In recent decades, the average temperature of Mars, especially in the Southern Hemisphere, has been rising by an average of 0,65 degrees Celsius per year.

If this continues, then liquid water will be able to sustainably exist on the planet in 500 years.
