And the horse did not roll

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Even the horse did not roll.

Meaning: Nothing has been done yet, there is still a long way to go (simple, often ironic or disapproving).

Origin: The origin of this turnover is also associated with the Russian peasant custom of letting the horse lie down before harnessing it (so that it is less tired during work), and with the habit of horses to wallow before letting them put on a collar or saddle, which delayed work.

Random phraseology:

Sealed book.

Meaning:

About something incomprehensible.

Origin:

From the Bible. In the New Testament, in the Revelation of St. John the Theologian (Apocalypse) (5:1-3), it is said: "And I saw in the right hand of the One sitting on the throne a book written inside and out, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel, proclaiming with a loud voice: Who is worthy to open this book and break its seals? And no one could, neither in heaven, nor on earth, nor under the earth, open this book, nor look into it.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The ocean turns to plastic 27.04.2012

Scientists from the Alfred Wegener Institute, together with British and Chilean colleagues, have discovered that plastic polluting the oceans creates a huge mass of microparticles, which are a new, as yet little understood threat to marine ecosystems and humans.

The rise in the global production of plastic, which ends up in the oceans, poses a serious threat to all life. Particularly dangerous are plastic microparticles - pieces of plastic dissolved in water that can accumulate in living organisms. An international team of scientists has carefully analyzed all available information about this type of pollution and believes that close attention should be paid to studying their impact on the world's oceans.

Microplastic particles are essentially pieces of plastic objects less than five millimeters in diameter. In most cases, these particles are smaller than a grain of sand or the tip of a needle. It is this property that makes them especially dangerous for marine life. The microplastic particles are absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and are effectively absorbed by the body.

In their studies, scientists used a network with cells of 85 microns, which makes it possible to catch 100000 times more particles than a network with cells of 450 microns. Thus, for the first time, it was possible to understand to what extent plastic can dissolve and how efficiently it can be absorbed by living organisms.

It also turned out that a large proportion of microplastics are plastic granules, which are used as raw materials in the production of plastic products such as computer cases and other household items. Often these pellets are loaded and transported carelessly, causing the wind to blow them out to sea. Many particles come from cosmetics and detergents: they end up in sewers, rivers, and then into the seas. In addition, each plastic bottle or bag in the sea gradually breaks down into countless microparticles - ultraviolet makes the plastic brittle, it cracks, and then rubbed into the smallest dust by friction forces.

It is still unknown how effectively microplastic particles can penetrate rocks, settle in swamps, bind with salts, etc. Scientists are concerned about the growing plastic pollution in the ocean, especially in light of the fact that we still do not know anything about the possible consequences of this pollution.
