Anathema

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Anathema.

Meaning: Damn it.

Origin: From ancient Greek: anathema. Church term of ancient Greek origin, meaning excommunication, church curse. People who were excommunicated from the Church were actually subjected to ostracism, that is, expulsion from their usual society - the rest of the believers were forbidden to communicate with them, have any business, etc.

Random phraseology:

Sharashkin's office.

Meaning:

An undignified, untrustworthy institution, enterprise, organization (simple disdain).

Origin:

The possessive adjective sharashkina is explained by the dialect sharan "trash, squalor, crook". Sharashkin's office literally means "an institution, an organization of crooks, deceivers." From the turnover, in turn, the word sharaga "suspicious place or group of people" is formed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The world's first quantum communications satellite 28.05.2016

China plans to launch an experimental satellite as early as July this year, which will allow organizing a secure quantum communication channel.

Quantum communication systems are impossible to eavesdrop on. These secure links already exist, but they usually only work in a lab environment because they use special fiber and other components not available on the commercial market.

If the launch of the Chinese apparatus is successful, it will be the world's first experiment on the formation of a quantum channel between a satellite in orbit and ground equipment. The satellite is planned to be used for research in the field of quantum technologies.

It is also noted that in the second half of this year, a secure quantum communication line will be put into operation, which will connect Beijing and Shanghai. The length of this secure information transmission channel will be approximately 2000 km. At first, state structures, as well as various financial institutions, will be able to use the system.
