Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: The reins got under the tail.

Meaning: About someone who is in an unbalanced state, shows eccentricity, incomprehensible persistence.

Origin: Reins - belts for controlling a harnessed horse. In a horse, under the tail, part of the croup is not covered with hair. If the reins get there, the horse, being afraid of being tickled, can suffer, break the wagon, etc. A person is compared with such behavior of a horse.

Random phraseology:

Sim won.

Meaning:

Only by acting in a certain way, under certain conditions, can victory and success be achieved.

Origin:

Old Church Slavonic version of the Latin expression Hoc signo vinces [hok signo vinces]. Literally: With this sign you will win. From the work "The Life of Tsar Constantine" by the Byzantine historian Evebius Pamphilus (263-340). In this work, he reports that the Roman emperor Constantine, on the eve of the battle with Maxentius, saw a cross in the sky, under which were the words: "With this sign you will conquer." And when Constantine won this battle, he finally believed in God, stopped the persecution of Christians and made Christianity the state religion of Rome. But all of the above is nothing more than a Christian legend. As many sources indicate, Constantine never renounced the traditional cult of the Roman gods.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Algae electric battery 14.05.2022

Researchers from the University of Cambridge (UK) have created a reliable and renewable biological photovoltaic cell based on cyanobacteria. With it, they were able to continuously charge the microprocessor for a year. For this, only light and water were needed.

The system - about the size of an AA battery - is made from common, inexpensive, and largely recyclable materials. It includes the algae Synechocystis, which naturally harvest solar energy through photosynthesis. The weak electrical current that is generated in the process then interacts with the aluminum electrode and is used to power the microprocessor.

The new photovoltaic device does not discharge in the same way as, for example, a lithium-ion battery, because it constantly uses light as a source of energy. And, despite the fact that photosynthesis requires light, the device can continue to generate energy even in the dark. Another advantage is that it can be easily reproduced hundreds of thousands of times to power a large number of small devices.

In the experiment, scientists used an element to power Arm Cortex M0+, a microprocessor widely used in IoT devices. The Internet of Things is a vast and growing network of electronic devices, each of which consumes a small amount of energy. These devices collect and exchange real-time data over the Internet. Using low-cost computer chips and wireless networks, many billions of portable gadgets are part of this network, from smartwatches to temperature sensors in power plants.

Powering trillions of IoT devices with lithium-ion batteries would be impractical: it would require three times the amount of lithium produced annually in the world. And traditional photovoltaic cells are made from hazardous materials that have an adverse impact on the environment.
