Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

New target for the New Horizons space station 03.09.2015

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced a potential target for the New Horizons Expanded Science Program.

The New Horizons spacecraft was launched by NASA back in January 2006. The device is designed to study Pluto and its satellite Charon. A large number of scientific instruments are installed on board the station: these are cameras, spectrometers, a solar wind particle parameter meter, a dust detector, etc.

The main mission of New Horizons has already been completed. It culminated in a flyby of the Pluto-Charon system at a distance of 12 km from the planet's surface on July 500 of this year.

The station was originally designed so that, after studying Pluto, to study one of the objects of the Kuiper belt. In particular, the device has a supply of fuel to perform a number of maneuvers, and its communication module is designed to transmit data from distances far beyond the orbit of Pluto. The power subsystem and scientific instruments will be able to function for many more years.

So, NASA reports that the next target for New Horizons is likely to be 2014 MU69, a trans-Neptunian object from the Kuiper belt. According to various estimates, it has a diameter of 45 to 60 km and an orbital period of 294 years. The object is located approximately 1,5 billion km beyond Pluto.

It is curious that at the time of the launch of New Horizons, nothing was known about the 2014 MU69 object. It was only discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in the summer of 2014. If 2014 MU69 is finally approved as the next target for New Horizons, the station will reach this object in January 2019.
