Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

OLED panel 0,97 mm thick 29.05.2015

LG Display, a display design and manufacturing subsidiary of LG Corporation, has developed a 55-inch OLED panel with a thickness of 0,97 mm and a weight of 1,9 kg that can be attached to a wall with a magnetic backing.

The new panel was presented at a press conference in Seoul as a demonstration of the company's capabilities. By comparison, the latest 55-inch OLED panel used by LG in current LED production TVs is 4,3mm thick.

During the press conference, the company showed that the new thin panel can be attached to the same size magnetic pad hung on the wall, and can be easily detached as well.

An OLED panel is made up of light emitting diodes and does not require a backlight, unlike an LCD panel, so it is much thinner. It was assumed that the new technology would replace liquid crystals, but this did not happen due to the fact that manufacturers failed to master the production of the element base in the required volumes. According to the forecast of the analytical company NPD DisplaySearch, the transition to OLED panels may occur in a couple of years.

LG's lineup currently includes six OLED TVs in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes. Five models have a curved shape.
