scandalous chronicle

French
French

Phraseologism: Scandalous chronicle.

Meaning: Media news, revealing and savoring the secrets of the lives of famous people.

Origin: The expression was born in France in the XNUMXth century. This is the title of the second edition of a book about the French king Louis XI, the authorship of which is attributed to Jean de Troyes, and according to another version, to the royal squire Leni Gesselin. But, whoever its author was, this title - "The Scandalous Chronicle" ("Chronique scandaleuse") - was given to the work not by the author, but by an unknown publisher. In the first edition, the book was called differently: "Chronicle of the most Christian and victorious Louis of Valois, the eleventh of this name." Later, the expression "scandalous chronicle" became a popular name for the corresponding sections of magazines and newspapers.

Random phraseology:

A brazen fool.

Meaning:

About a mediocre and ambitious person (people) (jokingly-iron.).

Origin:

From the poem "Farewell Poetry" by Igor Severyanin (pseudonym of Igor Vasilyevich Lotarev, 1887-1941): "There are talented cowards around // Or an insolent mediocrity, // And only you, Valery Bryusov, // Like some equal sovereign."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
