Phraseologism: Let's sit down, friends, before a long journey.

Meaning: An invitation to act in accordance with the custom - not for long, everyone to sit together before leaving, to gather their thoughts.

Origin: From the song "Before a long journey" (1962), written by the Soviet composer Matvey Blanter (1903-1990) to the words of poets Vladimir Dykhovichny (1911-1963) and Maurice Slobodsky (1913-1991): "Let's sit down, friends, before a long journey, - // Let the path be easy. // Come on, cosmonaut, slowly touch // And don't forget the song on the way."

Random phraseology:

Troublemaker.

Meaning:

A person who rebels against indifference, bureaucracy, and various manifestations of social injustice.

Origin:

The title of the novel "Troublemaker" (1940) by the Soviet writer Leonid Vasilievich Solovyov (1906-1962) is about the folklore hero of many peoples (Tajiks, Azerbaijanis, Persians, Turks, peoples of the North Caucasus, etc.) Khoja Nasreddin, a cheerful inventor, wit, champion of justice and protector of the poor. Folklore sources attribute the life of this character to the XIII - XIV centuries. The main character of the novel himself speaks of himself as follows: "I am Khoja Nasreddin, a troublemaker and a sower of discord, the one about whom the heralds in the bazaars shout every day, promising a big reward for his head."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Cyborg Olympics planned 07.04.2014

In October 2016, the world's first Cyborg Olympiad will be held in Switzerland, in which people with disabilities equipped with modern mechanical and electronic prostheses will compete.

The Cybathlon will feature 6 competitions. Each competition will be attended by people with disabilities equipped with a certain type of prosthesis or equipment: prosthetic legs and knees, prosthetic hands, power wheelchairs, power exoskeleton, electrically stimulated prostheses and a neuro-computer interface.

With the help of a neuro-computer interface, paralyzed people will be able to control a racing car or a horse in a computer game using their thoughts. The duration of the race will be 5-10 minutes, which is quite a lot, considering that modern neuro-computer interfaces require mental concentration. The process will be displayed on large displays so that viewers can see it.

Competitors will be able to use both commercially available prostheses and devices under development by various laboratories.

Two sets of medals will be awarded in each competition. One of them will be awarded to the winner of the competition; to others, a prosthesis supplier.

The organizer of the Olympiad will be the Swiss center for research in the field of robotics NCCR Robotic, with the participation of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich.

The main objectives of the event are to acquaint the public with the advances in the field of assistive systems, as well as the technical difficulties faced by their developers.

Before the 2016 Olympiad takes place in Zurich, it will be possible to see the state-of-the-art developments in the field of assistive systems in action in the sports arena this summer.

The World Cup, which will be held in Brazil from June to July this year, will be opened by a paralyzed teenager. Using a powered exoskeleton equipped with mind control technology, he will make the first ceremonial kick of the ball.
