Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.
Saltykov-Shchedrin M.E.

Phraseologism: With regard to meanness.

Meaning: About the behavior, actions of people or their opinions are so low, unworthy that they border on meanness (iron., contempt.).

Origin: From a fairy tale "for children of a fair age" called "Liberal" (1885) by Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826-1889). In it, the writer satirically depicts the spiritual evolution of Russian liberals, who first asked the government for at least some reforms - "if possible", then - "at least something", and, finally, "in relation to meanness." This is how M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin characterized the opportunism and lack of will of the "opposition" of his day.

Random phraseology:

You can’t harness a horse and a quivering doe into one cart ..

Meaning:

About trying to connect the incongruous.

Origin:

Quote from A. S. Pushkin's poem "Poltava" (1829).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Cree XLamp CXA2 Efficient LEDs 24.03.2016

LED specialist Cree has unveiled the Cree XLamp CXB1310 and XLamp CXB1520 high-density LED arrays.

The new products are built on the proprietary SC5 Technology Platform and provide record luminous flux in their classes: XLamp CXB1310 - among LEDs with a light-emitting surface with a diameter of 6 mm, XLamp CXB1520 - among LEDs with a light-emitting surface with a diameter of 9 mm. What's more, the CXB1520 is the first LED with a light emitting surface of 9mm in diameter, delivering a luminous flux of over 6000lm.

According to the manufacturer, this is comparable to seven 60 W incandescent lamps. The luminous flux of the CXB1310 reaches 3200 lm.

A large luminous flux, coupled with a small light-emitting surface area, makes it possible to manufacture lighting devices that compare favorably with existing ones in smaller sizes, cost, and power consumption.

The new LEDs are available in color temperatures from 2700K to 6500K and a color rendering index (CRI) of 70, 80 and 90. They are identical in form factor to the CXA LEDs.
