After us even the flood

Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson
Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson

Phraseologism: After us, even a flood.

Meaning: Quoted as an ironic commentary on the mindset and behavior of temporary workers, selfish consumers (disapproved).

Origin: The expression is erroneously attributed to the French king Louis XV. As his contemporaries testify in their memoirs, the author of these words is his favorite Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour (1721-1764). She told them to the king to console him after the defeat of the French troops at Rosbach (November 5, 1957) from the army of the Prussian king Frederick II the Great. Soon these words became the unspoken motto of the royal entourage, known for licentiousness, embezzlement and oblivion of public interests. The meaning of the expression: do not worry about what History or descendants will say about us, we must live only in the present, only today.

Random phraseology:

Much ado about nothing.

Meaning:

About great excitement, fuss over an insignificant occasion, about noisy, emotional, but essentially empty conversations.

Origin:

From English: Much ado about nothing. The title of a comedy (1600) by William Shakespeare (1564-1616), which became a proverb in this translation by Tatyana Lvovna Shchepkina-Kupernik (1874-1952).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
