pour mud

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Sprinkle with mud.

Meaning: Insult.

Origin: It goes back to the opposition "clean - dirty" - to one of the oldest forms of understanding the world. The word "dirt" correlates with the subject-natural code of culture: it originally meant "evil" (i.e., earlier the expression "pouring mud" meant "letting in evil spirits"), but it was reinterpreted by modern cultivated consciousness as likening the actions of a person deliberately pouring water on another person impurities that stain it, the role of a symbol that replaces the idea of moral impurity.

Random phraseology:

Nature does not tolerate emptiness.

Meaning:

If you do not consciously support, do not cultivate a good, good beginning in a person (society), then it will inevitably be replaced by a bad and evil one.

Origin:

From Latin: Natura abhorret vacuum. The expression belongs to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC). It became popular thanks to the French humanist writer Francois Rabelais (1494-1553), who in his novel "Gargantua" (1535) writes (part 1, ch. 5) about medieval physicists who were sure that "nature is afraid of emptiness" and this was explained. for example, the rise of water in pumps (they did not yet know about the pressure difference). Sometimes the Latin expression Horror vacui is used in the same sense - fear, fear of emptiness. In part, it can serve as an analogue of the well-known saying "A holy place is never empty" (jokingly-iron.).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Super thin battery material 07.10.2021

American scientists have developed an ultra-thin material that will allow the creation of innovative batteries and other energy conversion devices.

Northwestern University professor Mercurios Kanadzidis, in collaboration with researchers at the Argonne National Laboratory, was looking for a superconductor with unusual properties and unexpectedly created another supermaterial of silver, potassium and selenium (a-KAg3Se2). Its structure consists of 4 layers, and the thickness is only 4 atoms, which allows for the first time to study the motion of charged particles in two-dimensional space.

With the help of superionic conductors, charged ions move in a solid material as freely as they do in liquid electrolytes contained in batteries. Such material easily conducts electricity, but conducts heat poorly, which means it almost does not heat up. Both of these properties make superionic conductors supermaterials for energy storage and conversion devices.

Scientists concluded about the special properties of the material after they heated it to 232 and 315 degrees Celsius. They noticed a shift to a more symmetrical four-layer structure. As it turned out, the process is reversible - it is enough to lower and raise the temperature again. After the transition, the silver ions began to wiggle just as if they were inside a highly salty aqueous electrolyte - one of the fastest ionic conductors known at the moment.

Even if the material, called a-KAg3Se2, cannot be used to make batteries, it will be useful for studying the behavior of ions and creating other 2D materials with high ionic conductivity and low thermal conductivity.

Research on the superionic material could be useful for developing new thermoelectrics that convert heat into electricity in power plants and even from car exhaust. The developments are also proposed to be used to create purification membranes for filters and water desalination.
