Bad is the soldier who does not dream of being a general

Pogossky A.F.
Pogossky A.F.

Phraseologism: The soldier who does not dream of being a general is bad.

Meaning: It is usually used to encourage, encourage someone in his enterprise, bold plan, plan (jokingly).

Origin: From the collection "Soldier's Notes" (1855) by the Russian writer Alexander Fomich Pogossky (1816-1874), nicknamed "military Dahl" by his contemporaries. In his collection of aphorisms-teachings, stylized as folk proverbs, there is also such an expression: "The soldier who does not think to be a general is bad, and even worse is the one who thinks too much what will happen to him" (Full collection. Op. A F. Pogossky, T. I. St. Petersburg, 1899). The first part of this phrase became winged.

Random phraseology:

Burn - does not mean to refute.

Meaning:

You can destroy a person, but not his teaching.

Origin:

According to legend, these words were said by the monk Giordano Filippo Bruno (1548-1600), the supporter and popularizer of the heliocentric theory of Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543), the author of the philosophical treatise "On Infinity, the Universe and the Worlds", having ascended the fire of the Inquisition. In his work, he went even further than Copernicus: he argued that neither the Earth nor the Sun are the only planets in the Universe. According to Giordano Bruno, it has many systems like the Sun, and many planets like the Earth, on which life is also possible. For such a clear contradiction with church doctrine, the thinker was arrested by the Inquisition and spent seven years in prison, where he was required to renounce "heresy". Not having achieved their goal, the Inquisition judged the thinker and burned him at the stake in the Square of Flowers, in Rome. Now there is a monument dedicated to Giordano Bruno on it. These words gained new popularity during the years of the French Revolution. Camille Desmoulins (1760-1794), one of the leaders of the revolution, will pronounce them, obviously remembering the legendary expression of Bruno, in response to the threat of Maximilian Robespierre to burn the circulation of the newspaper Le Vieux Cordelier, on the pages of which Desmoulins spoke out against the Jacobin terror.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Chip Shield Reader Personal Card Reader 12.05.2016

Chip Shield showed off the Chip Shield Reader, a personal card reader at FinovateSpring 2016, that claims to protect against online scammers. The device should become widely available this summer, and it will cost only $20.

The Chip Shield Reader connects to a computer via USB, and to mobile devices via a cable with an audio jack. It works with all bank cards with a chip. The Chip Shield Web Assistant application that comes with the device provides protection for making payments and banking operations on the Internet, while its use is completely transparent for websites, and the user does not need to enter the card number, name and password - data that can be intercepted by malware or lure the scammer out.

The device uses the encryption mechanism built into the card to generate unique keys that unlock the user's accounts and reveal their data only when the card is in the device. By the way, Chip Shield Web Assistant can store user passwords used to access online resources.

Another interesting feature is built on the integration of Chip Shield products with banking systems that dynamically generate unique card numbers for purchases in each store. This feature (Virtual Account Numbers) hides the real card number, making it inaccessible to intruders in the event of a data leak, and also allows you to set individual spending limits and card expiration dates.
