Phraseologism: A period of storm and stress.

Meaning: The period of the most active, decisive actions, on which the fate of the entire enterprise depends.

Origin: From German: Sturm und Drangperiode. This was the name given to the period of German literature from the 1770s to the 1780s. - by the name of the play "Storm and Drang" (1776) by the German writer Friedrich Maximilian Klinger (1752-1831). Initially, the author called the play "Confusion", but when he read it to his friend, doctor X. Kaufman, he advised to call the play more expressively - "Sturm und Drang" ("Sturm und Drang"). Later, this was the name given to the period of struggle (the last 20th anniversary of the XNUMXth century) by the young German intelligentsia (Herder, Goethe, Schiller, Klinger, Burger, etc.) against the outdated conventions of classicism in art, for "absolute freedom of creativity" and "following nature." The period of "storm and onslaught" prepared the beginning of the era of romanticism in German art (the beginning of the XNUMXth century).
