Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Invisibility Cloak Illusion 29.12.2016

Scientists from Yale University (USA) found that people tend to believe that they are watching other people more often than someone is watching them. Psychologists have called this erroneous attitude the "invisibility cloak illusion."
Conclusions were drawn from the results of several studies. In particular, several hundred people participated in online surveys. Most often, the participants described themselves as more observant than the people around them, and also believed that they received less attention than others. Most of the respondents also said that they were more likely to watch a stranger than to have some stranger watch them.

The same was confirmed in studies in real conditions. Psychologists, for example, asked university students who dined in a common room to rate the extent to which they observed others around them and how often they themselves were the object of observation. The same distortion was evident in the results.

It is curious that even in the case of eye contact with a stranger, most of the respondents were sure that this contact arose because it was they who looked at the other person, and not him at them.

The authors of the work believe that such an illusion provides us with greater comfort in communication, giving a sense of control and reducing anxiety.
