Have no place to lay your head

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Have no place to lay your head.

Meaning: About a wanderer, a restless person.

Origin: From the Bible. The Gospel of Luke (ch. 9, v. 58) contains the words of Jesus addressed to a man who expressed his desire to follow him wherever he went. "Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." The ancient Greek historian Plutarch (c. 45 - c. 127) has a similar text in his biography of Tiberius Gracchus: "The animals that live in Italy each have their own hole and lair where you can hide, only the fighters fighting for Italy , there is nothing but air and light, and they themselves wander homeless and naked with their children and wives "(Vipper R. Yu. The emergence of Christian literature. M., L., 1946).

Random phraseology:

Trade unions are the school of communism.

Meaning:

Quoted in relation to the trade unions of the Soviet era.

Origin:

From the articles of V. I. Lenin (1870-1924). For the first time this expression appeared in the work "Children's disease of leftism in communism" (April, 1920). where Lenin wrote: “The conquest of political power by the proletariat is a gigantic step forward of the proletariat as a class, and the party has to train the trade unions even more and in a new way, and not just in the old way, to educate the trade unions, to lead them, at the same time, however, not forgetting that they remain and will long remain the necessary "school of communism"..." There is this expression in Lenin's later article "Once More on Trade Unions", where he emphasizes that "trade unions are the reservoir of state power, the school of communism, the school of management."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Google drones will save animals from extinction 12.12.2012

Unmanned aerial vehicles are used not only by military structures and law enforcement agencies. Google donated $5 million to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to buy and fly drones that will monitor endangered species in Asia and Africa, largely to protect them from poachers. The money will also be used to develop a software platform that will help map the most "poached" places.

WWF currently has several drones on patrol in Nepal that have a range of one hour and use cameras to detect suspicious behavior. Thanks to Google's donation, the foundation will be able to deploy similar patrols in other Asian and African countries, as well as launch a large-scale campaign to catch poachers who prey on rhinos, elephants, tigers and other animals.

The drones will be handed over to the rangers, who are already doing everything to stop illegal hunting, the aircraft will help in working with the most remote areas. According to WWF representatives, rhinos are highly valued for their horns, elephants are hunted for their tusks, and almost everything in tigers is valuable, including eyes and reproductive organs. Many species are highly valued for their supposed mystical and healing powers, and the profession of poacher is becoming increasingly profitable as the price of each endangered species rises steadily as the animal population dwindles.
