The king is naked

Hans Christian Andersen
Hans Christian Andersen

Phraseologism: The king is naked.

Meaning: About discredited imaginary authorities, untenable, exposed theories.

Origin: An expression from the fairy tale "The King's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen. Two deceivers undertook to sew for the king a dress of the finest fabric, which allegedly only fools and those who are "out of place" do not see. When the king put on this dress, he and the courtiers began to admire the skillful work and beauty of the dress, although in fact they did not see anything. The king in this new dress, at the head of a solemn procession, set off to march through the city. And since no one wanted to be considered a fool, everyone expressed their admiration for the handsome dress of the king. But suddenly one boy shouted: "Look, the king is completely naked!" Then it became clear to everyone that they were fooled.

Meaning:

About something unusual, surprising, outstanding.

Origin:

In ancient times, people counted only seven wonders of the world, which are so firmly ingrained in the minds of people that every new remarkable achievement is called the eighth wonder of the world.

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
