Nanotube heatsinks

Scientists were able to increase the cooling efficiency of microprocessors by six times using carbon nanotube heat sinks.

To create strong covalent bonds between the cooled surface (experiments were carried out with aluminum, silicon, gold and copper) and grown nanotubes, physicists used an interlayer of organic molecules of aminopropyl trialkoxysilane and cysteamine.

Mechanical adhesion of heatsinks to metal surfaces proved to be sufficient for further growth of nanotubes to improve heat dissipation. Carbon nanotubes were chosen for cooling chips because their thermal conductivity is better than that of diamonds, the most thermally conductive natural mineral.

At the same time, the authors of the work noted that, despite the general improvement in heat transfer, most of the grown nanotubes were not fixed directly on the metal. The researchers plan to continue experiments to improve the contact density.

Heat dissipation plays a critical role in the operation of integrated circuits, as their processing power decreases with increasing temperature. The problem of overheating is further exacerbated by the growing density of transistors in modern microprocessors, which are cooled using both passive (metal heatsinks) and active (coolers and fluid systems) methods.

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. SteelSeries introduced the Prime Mini and Prime Mini Wireless mice. The new mice have found application technology Prestige OM.
