Meaning: About a big reward for what is needed (jokingly-iron.).

Origin: From English: A horse, a horse/ My kingdom for a horse! From the tragedy "King Richard III" (act. 5, scene 4) by William Shakespeare (1564-1616), the words of King Richard III in verse translation (1833) by the actor Yakov Grigoryevich Bryansky (1790-1853). This translation was made by Bryansky not from the original, but from a French prose translation, so it is inaccurate. Original: Horse, horse! My kingdom for a horse! It is also possible that the Russian translator made his translation under the influence of the Russian fairy-tale tradition, in which the tsar promises the hand of his daughter to the "good fellow" for any exploits and promises "half the kingdom in addition." The popularity of this phrase was facilitated by the brilliant performance of the actor Pavel Mochalov (1800-1848) in the role of Richard III. The poet Apollon Grigoriev wrote about this in his poem "Art and Truth" (1854): "And I remember how, in a wild fright // He chilled me all over // Despair with the last cry: // "Horse, half a kingdom for a horse!""
