Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Ultra-compact 2,5mm thick image sensor for mobile devices 20.02.2012

Designers are looking for ways to reduce components used in mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. OmniVision has created an ultra-compact 720p image sensor that is smaller than any other sensor on the market.

The novelty received the designation CameraChip OV9724. It features a new OmniBSI+ architecture with 1,4µm photosensitive elements. According to the manufacturer, based on the CameraChip OV9724 sensor, it is possible to create camera modules with a height of less than 2,5 mm. At the same time, the OVM9724 sensor is introduced, similar to the OV9724, but packaged in a proprietary OmniVision CameraCube case.

Sensor format - 1/9 inch. The devices support 720p HD video at 30 fps. When the resolution is reduced to VGA, the frame rate can be increased to 60 fps. It is possible to read the whole frame, the whole frame with reduction and the selected window. Data representation - 8-bit or 10-bit. Necessary image processing functions, such as exposure control and defective pixel correction, are programmed using the standard SCCB (serial camera control bus) interface.

The OV9724 MIPI sensor is housed in a 6 x 4,5 x 2,5 mm housing. Evaluation samples are now available, and mass production should begin in the second quarter. The dimensions of the OVM9724 sensor in the CameraCube are 4 x 3 x 2,5mm. The appearance of introductory samples of this product is expected in the beginning of the second quarter.
