Meaning: A common noun for a poorly educated person who indulges in absurd, speculative reasoning, empty, idle reasoning (jokingly ironic).

Origin: From the poem (vol. 1, 11) "Dead Souls" (1842) by N.V. Gogol (1809-1852): "Kifa Mokievich, a man of meek disposition, who spent his life in a negligent manner. He did not take care of his family, his existence was turned more speculative and is occupied with the following, as he called it, a philosophical question: “Here, for example, the beast,” he said, walking around the room, “the beast will be born naked. Why exactly naked? Why not like a bird? why doesn't the egg hatch? How, really, that: you won’t understand nature at all, as you go deeper into it! ”This is how the inhabitant of Kifa Mokievich thought.”
