Focus Description:

The magician spreads a small rug on the ground and places a match, a teaspoon, a saucer and a cup on it. Showing objects to the audience, he calls several times: “Match, match! Spoon, spoon! Saucer, saucer! Cup, cup!” Then he asks to lend him a soft hat (or other headdress) and a jacket for a while.

Taking the jacket, the illusionist suggests taking absolutely everything out of the pockets and checking again to see if there is anything left there. After this, showing that he has nothing in his hands, he takes the jacket and places it unfolded on the rug, covering all the objects lying there with it, repeating their names again. Then he takes the hat with his right hand; showing that it is empty, he places it on top of his jacket and, repeating “match, match,” picks it up. The audience sees the match. He puts his hat on his jacket again.

At this time, the performer does something under his jacket with his left hand, raises his hat again, and the audience sees that now there is a spoon next to the match on the jacket. The magician again repeats “spoon, spoon” several times, again puts the hat on the jacket and, showing that his hands are empty, again puts his left hand under the jacket and lifts the hat with his right. Everyone notices that a saucer has appeared on the jacket. Passing the hat to his left hand, he does something under his jacket with his right hand. Shows both hands empty and raises his hat. There is a cup on the jacket. .

“Cup, cup, match, spoon, saucer,” says the magician and shows the audience all the listed objects lying on top of the jacket (Fig. 161). Giving the jacket to the viewer, he asks to carefully examine the clothing again to see if there are any slits in it through which things from the rug could “get through.”

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick is to pre-charge the hat with a match, which can be very easily and discreetly placed under the side inner ribbon.

The demonstration of the trick goes like this. Having placed all the objects that should appear on the mat, the magician quietly places a match inside the hat. Having shown the audience that the headdress is empty, he covers all the objects with a jacket. Having placed the hat on the jacket, he quickly takes out the match from under the ribbon and holds it with the finger of his right hand, pressing it to the side of the hat, and brings his left hand under the jacket and takes the match and spoon from the rug. At this time, he lifts the hat with his right hand, showing the match that has appeared and fixes the attention of the audience on it, brings the hat to the bottom of the jacket, covers it with his left hand, discreetly takes a spoon from it and holds it inside the hat, pressing it discreetly to the side, and discreetly hides the match.

Having lifted the hat up and holding a spoon inside, the performer places the headdress on the jacket and removes his hand. Thus, there is already a spoon under the hat. Having shown it, the magician again moves the hat away, and with his left hand takes it out from under his jacket and places a saucer inside the hat. Fixing the audience's attention on the spoon, he places his hat on the saucer next to it. Then he again lifts the hat and shows the saucer, and at this time with his right hand he leads the hat to the edge of the jacket, at the same time taking the cup from the rug and also inserting it inside the hat. Then he puts the hat on the jacket next to the saucer and, continuing to do something under the jacket with his left hand, lifts the headdress. Everyone sees that a cup has appeared.

The demonstration of this trick is peppered with jokes. Liveliness of execution and a variety of techniques are required when unnoticeably loading the hat with different objects.
