Focus Description:

The magician, having rolled up his sleeves, first shows the palm of his right hand and the back of his left, then the back of both hands and both palms. Once again showing the back of his left hand, he brings his right hand to it, having previously shown it empty on both sides. A colored silk handkerchief appears on the fingertips of the left hand. The performer takes the handkerchief with his right hand so that everyone can see it. At the end of the number, he again shows both hands empty.

Props:

A small apparatus in the form of a tube with brackets to hold it between the fingers.

Large colored silk scarf.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick lies in the apparatus in which the handkerchief is hidden, and in the manipulation with both hands. Apparatus (Fig. 57, 1) is a flat copper or tin tube, to which two metal brackets are soldered, one pair at the top and the other at the bottom (one on the right, the other on the left). Inside the tube is divided in half into two parts by a ribbon. The apparatus is painted in matte skin paint, the color of the magician's hands. Before the performance, they put a handkerchief into the receiver, carefully close it inside and hide the apparatus in a vest or trouser pocket or hide it in the folds of a suit.

During the demonstration of the trick, the magician stands in profile, with his right side to the audience, and at the right moment takes the tube with his left hand, and grabs the upper bracket between the bases of the middle and ring fingers (Fig. 57, 2), Then the performer stands up straight (in full face), and viewers see the back of his left hand. The illusionist runs his right hand along the back of the left hand, from the fingers to the hand (Fig. 57, 3), leads the right back and brings the left hand to the right (Fig. 57, 4). With this manipulation, he grabs the bottom bracket between the bases of the middle and ring fingers of the right hand, at the same time releases the top bracket with his left hand and immediately quickly raises both hands up (Fig. 58, 5). Then he turns again, as at the beginning, with a left profile and, as it were, folds his palms together (Fig. 58, 6). In fact, the performer bends the right palm under cover of the left in order to be able to grab the upper bracket (Fig. 58, 7), and immediately pushes the handkerchief out of the tube with the thumb of the left hand (Fig. 58, 8).

The audience sees the handkerchief emerge from the magician's fingertips. With his right hand, he takes a handkerchief and, standing to the audience with his right side, waves the handkerchief. At the same time, imperceptibly, he quickly puts the receiver in his trouser pocket or behind the neckline of his waistcoat and instantly brings his left hand, as if nothing had happened, also to the handkerchief.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

The Digital Key standard will turn your smartphone into a car key 28.06.2018

The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) has announced the release of the Digital Key Release 1.0 specification, which will turn a smartphone or other smart gadget into a car key.

Many well-known manufacturers already provide car owners with the ability to use a smartphone application to lock and unlock door locks, lock the trunk lid and start the engine. The CCC initiative is designed to bring such capabilities to the mass market.

The Digital Key standard will allow the use of digital keys in cars and smartphones of any manufacturer. The main condition is the support of short-range wireless communication NFC.

In its current form, the Digital Key specification includes features such as locking/unlocking doors, starting the engine, issuing/revoking digital keys, and limiting the capabilities of digital keys.

Security is provided by TSM (Trusted Service Manager) and a small NFC coverage area of about 10 centimeters.

The CCC organization has already begun work on an extended version of the standard - the Digital Key Release 2.0 specification. The project involves such giants as Apple, Audi, BMW, General Motors, Hyundai, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Samsung and Volkswagen. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
