The timing and quality of sleep varies by gender.

05.09.2020

Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania from the USA found out how much the circadian rhythms of men and women differ from each other.

Previous research has shown that humans and animals have more than one kind of "physical" rhythm. In addition to the circadian rhythm that regulates sleep and wakefulness, humans have internal cycles that are responsible for breathing, skin renewal and heart rate, etc. Of these, the circadian rhythm is the best known. The fact is that it has a noticeable effect on our daily life, controlling when we go to bed and when we wake up. It also affects metabolism and the rate at which we get tired.

Sean Anderson and Garrett Fitzgerald were eager to learn more about the circadian rhythm, so they analyzed a lot of research. Scientists studied studies that included more than 53 people, which is how they found that age and gender affect the body clock.

The researchers noticed that women tend to be "morning people" while men are "night people." They also found that women are more active during the day, which is also true for children, but at night they are less energetic than men. Interestingly, women also sleep more than the opposite sex, and most of their sleep consists of a slow phase. For men, the afternoon nap was more typical.

Researchers believe this is due to the maternal role that women have traditionally played, as it is natural for mothers to have the same circadian rhythm as their offspring.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

6G data transmission record 27.09.2023

The sixth generation of mobile communications, known as 6G, promises a data revolution beyond 5G. It is based on the use of previously unused terahertz frequencies, which will achieve a 50-fold increase in data transfer speed compared to 5G and a 10-fold reduction in signal latency. LG Electronics and the Heinrich Hertz Institute in Germany conducted successful tests, setting a new record for 6G data transmission range - 500 meters.

South Korean companies such as Samsung and LG have been actively testing and improving 6G technology for several years, setting records for data transmission range. Recent tests have allowed it to surpass the 500-meter mark, surpassing the previous record of 320 meters.

This achievement is significant because 500 meters is the standard distance between mobile towers in urban environments. This means that 6G technology is capable of supporting communication between devices located in different homes, buildings or streets. Thus, 6G is getting closer to real implementation.

The main limitation of 6G is the use of short terahertz waves. To achieve this record, engineers developed a new multi-channel power amplifier and low-noise input amplifier. This made it possible to increase productivity by more than 50% and set a new record for data transmission range.

According to forecasts, ordinary users will be able to start using 6G no earlier than 2029. However, Chinese telecommunications company China Unicorn hopes to complete technical research and launch prototype 6G equipment within two years. This means that the next generation of mobile communications could be available for electronic and computing devices as early as the beginning of the next decade.
