In many industries, sport has become the engine of progress, as it partially happened with ordinary cars - a huge number of technical solutions in production models came from racing. Nowadays, flying individual vehicles in the short term are assigned the role of taxis or couriers, and often working exclusively in automatic mode. And according to the founder of the Australian company Alauda Matt Pearson, in such a philosophy, firstly, there is little romance, and secondly, "you won't get far on it."

The brainchild of this Australian company is Airspeeder, an eight-rotor multicopter weighing about 250 kilograms, made almost entirely of carbon fiber and capable of accelerating to two hundred kilometers per hour at a height of 5-10 meters. Tests of the manned Mk4 model by pilots hired by the US Air Force were in full swing from the fall of 2019 until recently. The epidemic of coronavirus infection has slightly shifted the timing of test flights, but the creators of the original racing cars are confident that this year they will be able to hold the first official sports race.

The Airspeeder is one of the most innovative flying car designs to date. Of the obvious difficulties that its creators have to overcome, at least legislative restrictions. In most countries, such a technique already requires a pilot's license, and its flights must be carried out at a much greater distance from the stands than in motorsport.
